I'm not face-blind, but I do have difficulties recognising people.

When I worked in a shop, I sometimes had to leave a customer while I fetched/checked/did something. Then, when I came back, they had sometimes moved to look at something while waiting and I often didn't know who I had been serving (which was a bit embarassing). If I remembered to do so, I would take a quick look at their clothes, shopping bags, hair etc., but sometimes I would forget to do that or forget the details or someone wearing/carrying something similar would go and stand nearby.

Sometimes I had to sort of stand there looking confused as if I couldn't see anyone and wait for them to tell me that they were there. Sometimes I had an idea who it was, but couldn't be sure, so I had to be careful to avoid eye contact with them, otherwise it would look strange if I was staring at them but not doing anything about it.

Once in secondary school, I was really surprised when I found out that one of the lunchtime supervisors were actually two different people! They were around the same age, did the same job, had similar hair styles had similar(ish) voices etc. and I hadn't seen them together before. I was shocked! However, seeing them together, I could see that they were actually quite different.

Anyone else? :)

Yeah. I tend to look at people a lot before determining whether or not I know them, and sometime it's a little awkward depending on the proximity. People should wear name tags (on their backs, of course, so they don't know I'm staring).

I'm not that good at recognizing people. In fact I suck at it. My mom is good at it though. My dad is the same way as me.

My problem is I can only remember people very systematically. I try to remember their name, then attach to that their hair style, hair color, what race they are, whether they wear glasses, or any other physical trait such as size and weight.

A guy I used to work with was always throwing me off because he was constantly changing hair styles, growing a beard, shaving it off, ect. It was very hard for me to remember who he was unless he was sitting at his desk.

I get this really badly. I work at a Gym and I have to check people's membership as they enter. Often people will say, "I'll be right back I have to get something in my car." They come back 2 minutes later and I ask for their membership because I don't remember their face at all. That is just one of many situations in which this happens, quite frequently. I try to cope by trying to remember what color shirt they were wearing, if they were wearing a hat, etc.

I can mostly remember people by their hair, general height, and any distinctive features. I have a hard time remembering which name goes with which person. I'll remember a lot of facts about a person, but I just can't remember their name!

This has become a big problem for me. I work at a place called Tuesday Morning, (retail), and people ask me to look for something. I'll find the item, but then I'll forget what the customer looked like. So I end up asking everyone in the store, 'Is this what you needed?' ..oh, the travesty!!

That's me exactly. I can recognize the people I know, but if I don't know a person then they're one face out of a million. I remember memorable customers more by where I stood or what I was talking about than by their faces. It's really bad when coworkers ask which customer got what and I am unsure because I didn't really put them in my memory.

Yep, suck at this. I remember not being able to tell teachers who punched me 5 minutes later because I couldn't be sure it was them. You'd think you could remember these things, but no.

It amuses me sometimes when people come up to me outside of class to say hi and I have no idea who they are or which class they're from for that matter. They probably take a bit of offense though.

I get faces, but not names. Mainly because as I speaking with them, I calculate the odds of whether I will see them enough to remember their name.

I recognize faces really really well (even years after last seeing the person), but I can rarely place a name to the face unless I know the person really well.

I'm horrible at recognizing faces! Same with remembering names. You can only imagine how much the bullies used to have that advantage over me when I was younger...

I could never be sure either.

'Who hit you?'
'I don't know...'
'Well, I can't help you then'
'But they hit me'
'Yes, but until I know who hit you, I can't do anything about it'

Logical, really, but when you're in the situation, it's horrible.

I can never be sure. Especially if I see someone outside the area I normally see them. I used to do on-site computer work. It was great, because I knew everyone at every place, and remembering who was whom wasn't hard. But sometimes a client would drop by the shop to pay a bill or buy something. Whenever that happened I usually managed to mistake them for someone else. I learned to either hide around the corner or discuss non-specific things with them until I was 100% sure I knew who it was. And even then sometimes I got it wrong!

My wife once got a haircut that looked rather like the same haircut as a girl at my high school had years earlier. When she did that, she looked EXACTLY like that girl in my mind, until I dug out the yearbook and saw that the haircut was really the only thing in common... That was disturbing enough that she's never cut her hair like that again.
