Do you ever have fleeting moments when you are almost taken over
by emotion ? They happen to me most often when watching football
matches ! My 'default' mode is logical and cautious optimism but when the team I'm supporting scores a goal this gives way to out-of-control,
air-punching celebrations.

I believe these moments give a glimpse of what it must be like living
outside of the spectrum, where people feel these highs (or lows) in a
wider range of everyday situations. Logic now tells me I should place slightly less importance on sports and try to harness the emotion for more meaningful areas of life !

Those feelings are all too familiar, but they die out quickly.

Oh yes. Every time I watch wrestling, I come alive. But once it's over, and the "high" of the matches is gone, it's back to the norm.

I don't understand why having emotions is a glimpse of being non-autistic.

I've had emotional outbursts in the past, though I mostly keep my feelings bottled up nowadays...I just want to keep the peace in my family...

It happens to me when watching my hockey team, the Edmonton Oilers, but they didn't make to playoffs, now I only get mad when I think of hockey

I don't think being on the spectrum makes you less emotional, just possibly less likely to want to share it with others? I sometimes am more emotional than my friends due to the fact that I'm not always bound in the rails of social regulation, and the fact that my interests make me rather giddy.

Sometimes I feel a surge of excitement when I watch sports but that's only like when I'm by myself.

You're right,it's not so much I don't have
emotions,it's more that they're channelled in
different directions or as Ryn says we're less
likely to want to share them.
I work with people who seem to get a surge
of excitement just by spontaneously engaging in simple conversations and they have a healthy pride in their own personalities, friends, background etc. These are areas where I feel relatively restrained and I only get a glimpse in certain situations
of how they must feel most of the time.
