Personally, I cannot stand the idea of having noise pumped directly into my ears while I am out and about. I can maybe, just maybe, see the appeal if I did stationary workouts like an exercise bike or something. But I cannot imagine walking down a city street or jogging down a country path with anything blaring in my ears.

I am wondering if this sort of opinion might be somewhat typical of Aspies. Both hypersensitivity to sound and the desire to focus on immediate surroundings seem like major detractors for using mp3 players.

I love my iPod! I typically just listen to it if I'm in the car, on the computer, or riding my bike or something though. Same if I know I'm going to be waiting around for a while (like in line at the grocery store or in a lobby).

I love my Ipod as well. I kinda use it to filter out unwanted sounds and replace them with music. I find that i dont get as anxious with many things if i use it. Im not diagnosed officially yet tho, so maybe im different. But i love using it when im out and about :)

I live in a permanent love-hate relationship with my ipod.
- First of all, I would have never bought/asked/get/ and ipod if it wasn't that I sort of won some contest.
- I despise earplugs, they make my ears burn.
- Then again, I am over sensitive to news casts, those things stress me out terribly, my ipod has saved my life, I wouldn't be able to use my computer at home when parents are watching TV (they get a tendency to always watch news) or when I am in a bus/taxi and the driver is another maniac that loves to hear the news.

I never thought of myself as a music person, one of the most scary things people could ask me would be "what kind of music do you like?" Since I wouldn't have an idea what to answer. And if they were to ask what I got in my playlist, it would be utterly embarrassing, I doubt a "normal" person would understand the contents from my playlists since my ipod is full of "Les Luthiers" (Argentinian comedy-musicians) and Anime music...

I love my ipod as it makes my workouts at the gym more fun. With my tax return, I'm getting a CD player for my car because they have a jack to plug in an ipod. I tried the thing that goes through the radio, but where I live, there's too much interference for it to work.

I rarely use the headphones unless I'm listening at low volume as I sleep. However, as an obsessive collector, cramming all my music into a 60gig MP3 player has replaced a collection of 4000+ vinyl records and 3000+ Cds. I use a free standing docking station speaker set around the house and joy of joys - the player even plugs into my car stereo. I don't know how I'd survive without my music. stimming to silence just isn't the same. 8O

I'd love to have one, but I can't afford it.

I LOVE it!

It's the only loud noise I can tolerate. Hell, I can't live without my iPod.

My iPod is a godsend. If theres going to be non-natural sound i.e. not nature then I'd rather it be sound I control than people talking or other noises. Im going to get some sound reducing earphones or whatever they are called. Magic!

I have an iPod, but I don't use the headphones that come with it, since they're uncomfortable. I mostly use my iPod to exercise in the morning.

Like most everyone else here, I live for my iPod. I don't normally wear it around with headphones (unless I'm shopping at WalMart or other big store) but I have it with me at all times.

I used to wear it constantly in public when I lived in Chicago. Taking the train and walking around down there were very overwhelming without it.
