I like math, I'm really good at mental math, but I hate algebra.
YEAH! I like mental math also.
Our daughter used to play a game with us (her mom and I) when we would drive places in the car....
Daughter: "What's 2 plus 2?"
Us: 4
Her: "What's 4 plus 4?"
Us: 8
on and on until her mom would drop out. I kept on going. I loved doing that... don't know why, but I really enjoy figuring out things in my mind.
Later on... she changed to mulitplication!
I don't consider myself a math genius... in fact... I had to repeat the same algebra class in college three times before I even finished it and got a C.
Mostly it's that ADD/HD of mine and trying to maintain throughout a whole semester.
Also, I have trouble just accepting formulas using rote memorization.
What I mean is... it's hard for me to 'just remember to use that formula with those type of equations!"
My former wife gave up on helping me with my homework out of shear frustration when I would always ask...
"Well, how does this formula work... why does it work with this type of equation?"
Until I could picture the formula working out the equation... I'd just be stumped.
I could see the equation.. I knew there was a formula to work it with... but I just could not remember it unless I understood it.
If that makes any sense!
I would LOVE to teach math.
I love to help kids figure out stuff.
I love to be given a problem and try to figure out how many ways I can solve it.
Being transgendered though... I don't think too many parents would approve of me being around kids.
But that has nothing to do with this thread.
Math is GREAT... I really feel sorry for those of you who do not like it... but there are other things you can do in life... I'm pretty sure anyway
