Do people accuse you of staring at them when they are not looking? Some people just pointed this out to me a little while ago. I do it sometimes because I thought something was funny and I looked to see if it was O.K to laugh. Sometime I am just off in my own little world and I am looking in there direction. I was wondering if this is my own quirkyness or if others do this to?

I stare a lot, partly to see if there is anyone I ought to recognise (I'm somewhat face-blind).

LOL! Talking about face-blind... I broke up a fight between what I thought was my neighbour's kid and someone across the street... and it turned out they were brothers. There I was, standing in the middle of the street, yelling for the (supposed) kid's mother...

Very embarassing. I still get them confused a bit.

I don't know what to say about the staring thing. Maybe try to make sure you're facing a wall when you go off into la-la land?

apparently i do this, but only one as*hole really cared enough to make it a problem for me. she was a co-worker in an office who enjoyed pointing out my many idiosyncrasies, including a variety of 'inappropriate' staring.

My Mom does this, normally I'll just ask if she's looking at me and she says no.
She's done that as long as I can remember.

I'll space out while I'm looking at someone without realizing I'm looking at someone.

I don't stare at people conciously, to me it feels awkward looking for more than a moment unless I'm friends with them, but when I space out I'll realize that I've been staring at someone without realyl noticing thy're there.

I got scolded for giving some kids the "evil eye" at school once, way back... and I know I did have a tendency to stare awkwardly. But my usual problem was quite the opposite... I didn't look at people at all. I always looked 'shifty' because I was constantly looking down or away, and shuffling along with my head down.

I have quite good eye-contact now, though, which is an accomplishment I'm proud of. It only took me, what, 23 years? :P
