Could be, or could be just your average clueless bachelor (which I think is more what the cartoonist was going for).

I always thought Jon Arbuckle was a paranoid schizophrenic. He talks to his cat, expects answers and gets them.

He's only a dork, nothing more and nothing less  Not an aspie. Who else here likes Garfield comics? :D I borrowed them in our local library. What a pity Odie doesn't equal to Garfield speaking of intelligence.

I often find myself reading/watching something and grinning to myself, thinking "Oh my gosh, (insert name here) is SUCH an Aspie!"

Of course, none of the characters I identify as Aspies actually ARE (or intended to be). It's just that fiction tends to rely on charicatures, and a lot of Aspie traits really are just NT traits at a much more extreme level.

So you get social inept obsessional routine-loving easily-freaked out characters who, to me, are total Aspies even if they were never intended to be seen that way :D

Almost all of my favorite characters would probably have an ASD diagnosis if they were real, lol. Guess that's why I relate to them/like them.

I own twenty-nine Garfield books. I used to identify with Jon Arbuckle a lot.

"Jon has turned boredom into an art form." - Garfield

Technically, Garfield's speech is in thought bubbles, the only ones who can actually hear him are other animals.

Most people don't realize that, or just forget, which is why Garfield comics are so much funnier when you erase all of Garfield's word bubbles ;D

Very similar to Stewie from Family Guy...even though sometimes minor characters seem to understand him.

The Pros to Jon being an Aspie:

1.} His favorite music style is polka, and he plays the accordion.

2.} Jon is extremely bad at dating, even though he believes himself to be a smooth-talking ladies' man
and he has even been classified in his High School Yearbook as "Most likely to date a kitchen appliance", given that no one else will remain on a date with him. He is usually rejected when trying to get dates with women, perhaps because of his ridiculous pick-up lines, his loud and flashy outfits, or his habit of extolling the virtues of stamp collecting.

3.} Some of his "fun" ways to cure boredom are buying new socks, clipping his toenails, or playing "Guess the Burp" with Garfield.

that doesn't make it a symptom of Asperger's. I can't stand Polka.
