I bought a table and 4 chairs today. I had never owned this much furniture. My bed and the coffee table were hand downs. I'm 46.

I bought them at an extremely low price. They put the boxes in the car, and my neighbour took them out and up, then assembled them for "as much as you want to give me". Then he blessed me.

I indeed feel blessed.

I had always spent all the money I ever earned till a couple years ago on therapies that helped nothing. Little did I know therapies wouldn't change anything for me.

Congrats on the new table! Do you have any pictures you'd like to share? (I'll show you mine, too, if you want.)

i hope your table and chairs serve you well. it sounds as if you have a decent neighbour, which is a blessing in itself.

I was 29 before I bought my first second hand car(thanks grandma) and 30 before I bought a real bed, rather then sleeping on mattress on the floor...I think this is what they call...."developmentally delayed"?

Enjoy the table...I sold the car but still appreciate owning my own bed off the floor :D

Yes, that's what I thought - this neighbour himself is a blessing. He doesn't ask nosy questions, he doesn't nudge, scorn or do smalltalk. He just does his job to the best of his ability, gets paid and leaves. He's done all kinds of odd jobs I needed done and was despairing not knowing who to ask for help, like changing a tyre, covering some holes in the ceiling, etc. Why can't all people be like him?

Tomorrow I'll take some photos of the table. Lightning, wanna share yours?

krex, have you bought more furniture since then?

Nobody ever comes visit me, but the landlady and anyone who's had to come here have been appalled that I didn't own a sofa and dining room.

I bought a new futon in 2000(yeah, I remember cause it's so rare, lol)but it broke when my neighbor sat on it and then I got a second hand couch 1960's style at the Thriftstore which I still have and a few small tables from there....(it's back from the days when we made things to last....and even in our own factories....amazing.)

The rest of my furniture(and clothes) come from garage sales and dumpsters. It's not as bad as it sounds. I only pick-up furniture that is real wood and then refinish it....(sand it down to base wood, dye it with blue or green RIT dye and varnish it). I think it looks cooler then most stuff you can find at Target/Wallmart. The only new stuff I buy is food for me and the cats(even my cats are second hand...from the Human Society :D )and "techmology"..I love my ipod and computer. I live near a big city (Minneapolis) and people throw out an amazing amount of good stuff....people are weird.

That sounds lovely, refurbishing your furniture yourself. I'd like to buy an old house and refurbish and decorate it, like in Under the Tuscan Sun.

Alright, I can't wait! Well, in the meantime, you can check mine out. It's kinda messy, but you get the idea.

It actually took a really long time to get that table and matching bar stools (not pictured) to ship. My mom and I didn't have anywhere to eat for two weeks when we first got this house built. We ended up eating on lawn chairs. :P

I use to dream about that to but the houseing prices have gotten crazy in the US, so I don't think I will ever be able to afford that, at least not where I live. I have done some painting and basic fix up work,(one advantage to growing up with 3 older brothers). It's really satisfying to clean, patch and paint something but it would be even better to be able to design the improvements the way you liked.

My favorite "home" was actually a cave in Australia that someone had carved seats, beds and tables out of the sandstone...it even had a natural swimming pool. It looked so cool and comfortable. Of course I would fill it with lots of fluffy pillows and rugs but you wouldn't even need to paint it...you could carve designs on the walls and then "erase" them when you wanted to do another design. My stuff would look cool in there because I love to collect rocks and native art, (along with a about 20 other collections, lol)

What kind of house would you dream about living in?

Those are really pretty lighting88...very nice "earthy" feel to them.

I was looking into the darkened ajoining room and it looked like there was a small lit window above the closed curtains that had some tree branchs showing but then I realized the rest of the windows made it llok like it was dark outside when you took the picture? So is that a window or a work of art ?

Thanks! As for the window, that really is a window. I took the picture in the late evening a couple of months ago. My mom said there was no point of putting blinds on the top windows (there's three of them total). Our house backs up onto a nature preserve, and my mom enjoys looking at it through the windows.

I bought a table today too! I got it at a dirt cheap second-hand furniture store. I also got a chair, a dresser, and a mirror.

I've never owned so much furniture either! I'm 29 and I've never owned a real bed - I sleep on just a mattress.

The table is really small and low. I have bean bag chairs on either side of it so I don't have to sit on the floor while I'm eating.

The dresser is really big and heavy. The store refused to deliver it. When I was unloading it from the car, I realized how likely I was to get hurt. It's actually heavy enough to seriously injure someone if it fell on them. Fortunately, a couple of my new neighbors helped me out.

So it sounds like we had similar experiences today!

Yeah, it's a pretty cool little window. And at night, if I look through the window in my room and look into that one, I can actually see the great room. 8)
