I can quickly state facts, but am unable to elaborate on them.
So many of my essays look like this:
I blah blah bal balh. This does this. ...ect.
I also find that my mind quickly switches from one attribute of something to another, which causes alot of my problems.

Am I alone here? :?

No, I think I know what you mean. If someone asks me a question, I can give them the basic summarized facts. If I am asked to elaborate on the basics, I struggle.

I'm very terse, in writing as well as in speaking. Often that is considered an advantage. Not so in small talk, which is why I hate small talk.

I also have difficulties correcting misunderstandings.

I think what you are talking about is doing linear organization of the facts. Since we process information by a non linear methodology we have no need for this so it is a “skill” that has to be learned intellectually to be able to provide “summaries” to the NT world.

I am going through this with my son who is starting on “book reports” in school. Of course I had to enlighten the school staff as to the reason for this EF issue and devise a recommendation for teaching it.

I remember doing book reports at school and I struggled with them a lot. Most of the time, I would not complete the report and my mother would write a note saying to the teacher..."Brittany had a lot of trouble with this and was unable to complete it"...or something similar. I could simply write what happened in the book by going through pages and writing down the events, but when asked questions such as..."what was this characters motive in this scenario?"...or..."what was this character feeling at the time of this event?"...I would not know the answer.
Well, I'm presuming these are the type of book reports you are talking about?

Yes these are the type, most schools do not even understand this EF issue, let alone have a program for teaching the skill.

If you add a “social overlay” then things really get “difficult”

EF is executive function, basically the way that the mind organizes and processes information.

You know, I was going to create a thread on the exact same thing. At school, teachers commended my writing style for being very 'concise.' I never waffled or included irrelevant information in my assignments, but I was also criticised for not including enough detail.

I find it hard to elaborate both in writing and in speaking. Often I know all the facts, but retrieving them and collecting them together to make a coherent whole is a struggle. I often omit important things which everyone else would include. This is why my posts here are usually on the short side.
