I'm a spendthrift. Value Village is my clothing store of choice. I buy food in bulk. I cut my own hair. Years ago I bought an indoor washer and dryer and they have since paid for themselves. I go to the food pantry every week or so. In the next two months I'm facing homelessness so I'm considering not spending the 2nd month here and just saving my rent money and living off that while living in my car.

My one vice is I drink beer every night. That's to help stave off insanity.

I'm generally kind of practical with money but there are certain things I like spending my money on like eating out. I had a phase when I was on psych meds where I compulsively bought stuff online. I got over the compulsive buying after I go off all my meds

$10-11 is an hour of work here at minimum wage and as we know time is money, if something $10 is not worth an hour of my time then I don't buy it. I am sure everyone can extrapilate the little math formula I wrote to equate for other values. I am thrifty to a fault meny say, the best skill one can learn I think.

I used to be a lot more impulsive with spending money. I racked up some serious business debts & living expense debts a few years ago and then when a business partnership I was in sunk, it bankrupted me. Since then I've operated on cash only & am very frugal. I shop at thrift stores for work clothes and don't really buy anything I don't need. It's going be become very very easy to save money once my income rises. I'm working now and do save quite a bit considering my low income at the moment, but as soon as my income rises again (waiting for a building permit to come through so I can get back to the construction site I was on) then I won't spend any more money on essentials than I do right now & will pretty much be able to save almost all of the additional income towards savings/investment goals. Several years ago I used to spend all kinds of money I didn't have, it was ridiculous & I never intend to go down that path again. Every once in a while I want something and I ask myself if I Need it.. nope, so I don't buy it most times. There are a few relatively inexpensive items that are on my buy list that aren't absolute essentials, but at $10-20 I figure I can splurge on something once in a while without ruining my savings efforts.

I tend to put a lot of thought in to buying things. I try to save whenever I can. If you have an uncontrollable urge to spend on things you don't need, perhaps there is a deeper issue lurking underneath that you are having trouble dealing with. Just a thought but it might be worth looking into. Sometimes people spend needlessly because they are trying to fill a void in their lives or trying to cope with something that hurt them. Perhaps you have something like that going on if you feel like you can't control the urge.

I like not thinking about money and buying the stuff I like.
But still, I don't need much. I need no car, I've a bike. I don't like going shopping for cloths or shoes.
Most of my money I spent on books and food.
But if I would have more money, I would travel more around.

I'm extremely anal about money, to the point of unnecessary privation.

Ugh, I am such a terrible impulse-buyer it isn't even funny! It seems like I can't go one week without buying something that isn't a necessity. Worst of all is when I go on spending sprees where I buy as much as I can within the shortest time span. Shopping is like a drug to me.

I think my love of shopping comes from the fact that I didn't have much growing up. My family spent a lot of years straddling the line between "middle class" and "poor". Now that the tides have turned in our favor, we're nearing upper middle class territory, and I feel wealthy enough to splurge.

Another part of it is my strong fear that if the economy ever tanks again (which is a possibility given how dangerously close the US edges towards a default each time it hits the debt ceiling), I want to be able to have continued access to items that are relevant to my special interests in case things get really bad (especially if it means that my main family will have to share a house with my sister again...)

I don't think aspies are more likely to do impulse purchase than any other population. Some have a bit of trouble managing money and paying bills on time due to trouble in executive functions. Mostly people who are depressed are more likely to spend too much. I suppose aspies are more likely to be depressed, but that shouldn't be blamed on autism anyway.

ETA: Moderate amount of impulse buys are fine. Nearly everyone does that. As long as you achieve your financial goals and are not in debt, it's OK to have some fun.

I'm a saver. I don't spend unless it's necessary. That includes lunch of course.
