Does anyone else rock? Like I mean, find themselves rocking back and forth or side to side, or like to rock in a rocking chair? When I was a kid I used to rock back and forth in a chair that wasn't even a rocking chair. I'd just bounce off the back of it and rock for long periods of time. Honestly the older I got the more embarrassed I feel about it... I eventually stopped because I saw none of the other kids did that. I even did it in the car. But even now I love my rocking recliner and will sit and rock for quite a while, while I read or whatever. I mean I know that children with autism are notorious for rocking, but still kinda wonder about it, and sometimes I'm still embarrassed by it to some extent. My husband has noticed how much I love this chair and won't ever sit on the couch and I feel like telling him to leave me alone 'cause I can't help it I like to rock

Why be embarrassed about it? It's a perfectly natural way to calm yourself. I do that too. :)

I rock a lot as well. But my rocking behaviour has changed since childhood. I used to rock really violently wherever i was, but now... Its more of a gentle less noticeable rocking. I like to rock. And i love swings :)

Yes I love swinging too! I guess I just love to be in motion, very soothing :)

I was embarassed to do it in front of people after I learned about AS, but that seems to have worn off a little bit now.

I'd rather bounce, either on a trampoline, exercise ball (which I'm doing now) or in place, but if I can't, for some reason, I'll rock. I rock myself to sleep. I don't do it too often in public, but I do sometimes, and I usually have an excuse in public because I usually have my son in a baby carrier on me.

I have a tendency to rock or spin back and fourth on my chair. I even do it alot in my college classes. I try not to but I start to do it unconsciously and usually I will realize it and stop but before I know it I am back to doing it again. Just now I realized that I was spinnning back and fourth but was not aware while writing the first two sentences. I do it a lot because it feels good and helps me focus.

Yes but it's a relatively new habit, lasting since about a year, I never did it as a child in contrast to this popular stereotype.

I have loved to rock in rocking chairs as far as I can remember. I am hoping to get one once my basement is complete.

Am rock all the time, whether standing or sitting, the only time am not doing it is if am physically too weak, like post meltdown or shutdown.
am hate it if am sat in the street, rocking and am get screaming in ear, staff said its because am wearing ear defenders, screamers assume they are headphones being used for music [the clue should be in the lack of wires and different shape].

Yes I rock, more at the moment although I miss being able to going on a swing and a rocking chair, I miss that so much. Im not allowed either which I think is really unfair.

Rocking is to me what purring is to a cat....I find it calms me or keeps me calm when I'm already calm.

I remember doing it in my 20s but, like irulan, I am not even really sure if I did it earlier. I DID do the kicking type thing when I was a kid, but many did. Still, even today, it is subtle.
