Anybody ever have their brain scanned to see if you have less right brain activity--or something like that. And even if you did, do you think Asperger's is about more left brain and less right brain activity, anyway?

well, i was the test subject in several pet and FMRI scan studies when the technologies were first being developed, as well as the "lab rat" that they used for several other MRI protocols.

the only thing they ever mentioned to me was that i had a "remarkably young-looking brain" for someone in their early 40s....

i have, my brain is balanced. I think its more common with most autistic's to have more activity in the left half, though i have a feeling that with aspergers/HFA there is more variance.

Thanks. If I decide to do it, I'd be nervous because what if it shows up perfectly balanced and then how do I explain everything. Maybe I'll only do it if I have time to kill and my insurance pays for it and if the treatment, neurofeedback, seems promising.

I wouldn't worry about that, im sure there's plenty of aspie's here who are either balanced or even lean more towards the right side being more dominant. ive noticed a fair few people here are heavily into more artistic and creative stuff then they are logic.

I think being an aspie is about too much of one brain side and not enough of the other. I've been accused of lacking the ability to find 'middle ground' in situations. Sometimes it's because of being too logical, other times not logical enough. It depends on how I'm thinking at the time.

Never had a brain scan for activity. However, I've taken online tests and they always come back and say I use both sides of my brain equally (which is apparently quite rare). So I am equally deficient on both sides I suppose.

Never had a brain scan...too expensive....
speaking of which, Dr. Amen from the Amen clinic is on PBS tonight in my area...he is all about the brain scans...

I am definitely more right-brained...I seem to have severe deficits as far as left brain activity goes....
Maybe it has something to do with an imbalance regardign the dominant side of ones brain...

I have alot of AS traits...but I am def. a hard-core right brainer....left-handed...my right eye is dominant even though it is my bad eye...

I have dyscalculea...and mild dyslexia..I am a hard-core visual thinker..though I have trouble with spatial skills.....

I have a really hard time with activities like video games...operating gadgets...I am 32 and can't drive a car....

I never had a brain scan. I really wish I'd have one though! Maybe someone could explain more about my PDD to me then, depending on whether there's something odd about my brain.

I don't think the 'damage to hemisphere'-theory holds much truth.

And originally those with AS/adequate language weren't even considered. In the 70s (?), it said that those with autism and speech issues had less left-brain activity - or, I think they actually said there's damage to the left-side of the brain.

Since that does not seem to fit those with at least 'adequate' speech, someone came up that it's the other way around with those with AS nowadays. That Asperger's means there's damage to the right hemisphere.

But I really doubt the whole thing and think it's at least half-way pop psychology. Or where exactly does the 'damage to one hemisphere' theory leave all those with an ASD whose symptoms change throughout life? (=damage undone to one hemisphere suddenly, damage to the other hemisphere as suddenly?)

I wish. I actually need a functional study, not just for kicks. I've only had a static MRI which tells you very little.

I did, a long time ago, and I'm strongly right-brained. I've noticed that the older I get, though, the more it seems to be balancing out. My level of creativity isn't what it used to be.

I had a brain scan. It had elevated activity in some areas and reduced in others. It was asymmetric in some parts, but odd things occurred on both sides.

I don't think that autism is about right vs. left brain at all, and most of what people think they know about right vs. left brain isn't true anyway. Plus, I'm left-handed and that can throw all theories about brain organization out the window.

There are alot of left-handed aspies here..
I am one.
In daring to call myself an aspie (not diagnosed)...i'd say that I just happen to be a very very right-brained aspie...
