I just saw my health care provider today and we had a long talk about AS and my job, and she told me that there was a place here in town that she thinks might give me some concrete help in dealing with situations. While she is qualified to diagnose me herself, she feels I would be better off going over there at first. She has absolutely no doubt whatsoever based on her work with ASD individuals that I am on the spectrum, the only question is where. She did say I was taking a risk work-wise by going for it, but that in the long run it would only help open doors. And who knows where it might lead. I am so tired of stumbling in the dark and pretending to be something I am not, and I am so afraid that one of these days I am going to get fired even though right now they tell me everything is fine, because they keep placing more and more demands upon me and one of these days I am not going to be able to cope. My health care provider was just appalled at what I have to put up with, she said it was no environment for someone with Asperger's, and yet I hang on somehow and keep managing to perform to their standards (so far). I hate to say it but my employer does have a reputation for pushing certain people out by overloading them until they quit. But maybe with the ADA on my side they might think twice about that strategy.
