Not to sound too pessimistic, but people have ALWAYS been attracted to "bad news". The Unfortunate is always more interesting. But I still voted "no" but not for my fifteen minutes of fame. I just don't think it's any different these days as it has always been. However, the media just makes this natural tendency only a click away.
But people have always been vultures, gossiping, cheering, and drooling over a "juicy story". We just have the television, computer, phone, etc., to facilitate our vulturism and take it city, country, or even world wide within minutes.
