So i noticed a lot of the time I dont have thoughts going through my mind, and i always drift off like to entire different diminision, where i couldnt tell ya if it was storming or not, or if i was walking and afraid of getting hit by a car, i dont see that. In fact when im in this world, im rather happier, i see ribbons of royal blue and teal float around me, as i stim so much my whole body is in serenity, and peace. I honestly never want to leave that place, but then soon realize that if i dont ill disappear for good. Now does anybody else here just disappear in their own world and not really understand and comprehend or care about whats going else around you?

I do that alot. Not sure if it's an AS or Autism related but my mind just goes blank and my family are like oh you seem tired what have you been doing. Also alot of times I get involved in something and my family will come in and that freaks me out I literally jump out of my seat!!

Yes!
am constantly in that state whilst out, though family/staff try to prompt am out of it,inside-its more regular than constant, though am did not treat the support staff to kindly at school/college when they used to prod, push and verbally drag am out of it.

am think this affects anyone across the spectrum, the difference just being in how much time they spend hyperfocussing in each reality.

All the time, though most of the time I have at least a clue as to what is going on around me. But there are times when I am totally oblivious to everything else going on around me and it always seems to be when I need to pay the most attention.

In my own little world, I am Overlord.

i do... have always been spacey.

have learned to control what i do when i'm in this different place... as much as i can like when i have lucid dreams. to me this kind of thinking is like skipping a stone on water and i enjoy spacing out even more to try and make my mind (stone) go further.

it IS peaceful and for me it is spiritual as i hope to be in this place at the moment when my body dies... and is why i actively try to manifest myself in my follies.

Oh yeah! I do that a lot -and I love it.

Going into my "other" world helps keep me sane. It is a stress re levier as well.

I consider my ability to be creative within my dreams one of my better qualities.

Real life is boring to me at times. Not ever in my dreams.

I think it is unusual for average brains and apparently unusual for autism, but I'm the opposite.

I never space out. I can't.

I can empty my mind of thoughts at any given time, but I can't space out. I'm always aware.

It appears impossible to hypnotise me too. But that's all right. I can just tell myself to stop or start feeling pain over an injury. Or I can make my heart beat slower. So hypnosis needn't work for me.

Just found these:

1. http://www.creative-minds.info/index_files/AlteredStates.htm
On hyperfocus, epilepsy, spacing out, dissociation and other states in autistic people.

2. http://thebeatofmydrum.wordpress.com/2007/08/08/hyperfocus-and-flow/
On hyperfocus and flow

Interesting enough, the average person leaves situations mentally too. They usually do it just for a few seconds or less, but their brains can do it.

I am constantly in both worlds somehow, I only slighly move more into reality or out as situation dictates, thaugh I've been told I have zoned out to the point where people have called my name and I don't respond.

i hate it when i get the hand-waving in front of my face to bring me back...... that works more than calling my name.

I do that too, all the time. One time I was completely lost in my world for about three entire days. I avoided contact with everyone just so I could stay there. It was awesome, but unfortunately my sister snapped me out of it by telling me it wasn't normal to avoid talking to everyone like that, though my mom said it was perfectly fine.

I am pretty much in my own world alot. It's alot easier. Or I am in the dogs world since I would rather hang with them most of the time. Their my bestest friends.

I've been doing that for as long as I can remember.

How extreme can one interpret this ?
Do you mean that if the room caught on fire
you would remain oblivious to it? Or is it just
limited to ignoring someone calling your name
out or dropping a tambourine on the floor?

My friends joke that my "Indian name" is
"Doesn't know what's going on" because
I space out so much...even during spaces
in between our conversations and before
I can finish saying what I started to say.
