Ok, I'm not skinny by any means, but I run cold! I mentioned that I wanted to take some paperwork outside, so I can warm up. I have an air conditioning vent right over my head, & even moderately cold temps make me cold when it's blowing on me. A guy who was standing there conversing with 2 co-workers, seemed like he was ready to start an argument because I said *I* was cold. Grrrrrr! What gives! I never said it was "cold" in the office, just that I am.
Why can't some people just live & let live?
Can you move desks ?

That guy probably has a "bully mentality"... he likes to cause pain to people... If a bully perceives someone as weak, or when someone expresses a feeling of being uncomfortable, they are like sharks drawn to the smell of blood... He probably couldn't resist verbally attacking you... Was he one of those overly macho type guys? Maybe it was his idea of expressing his machoness by trying to say that he would never feel cold.. Sometimes the bullies feel they have to assert themselves that way... to stress their toughness..
OR maybe he just resented anyone else's presence out there and was just being rude? I find that the bullies almost have a 6th sense for searching out people on the spectrum so they can give them a hard-time... they "feed" that way... He may have just sensed you as a target...
Yeah, "why can't people just live and let live"... without feeding off the pain of others.. that sure would be nice!

He probably thought that you were complaining about the temperature and that type of stuff and wanted to change it to the detriment to him. That' my best idea.
Omar's idea seems a good idea too

Because some people are morons and think everybody's business is theirs and they have to comment. I think most of these people are NT's. Sorry NT's if you find that offensive but I'm talking about the moron NT's, not all are this way. Not much you can do it about but just turn your head and roll your eyes. I know as an Aspie it would be hard for me to blow it off but what else can you do but let the guy continue being a moron. If he's around in the future I would clearly state you know it's not cold in there but you are cold and need to go out and warm up. Maybe the guy won't be so quick to judge, but I'm probably wrong because usually, once a moron, always a moron.

I have a similar situation, in that I run cold and sit under what I describe as an arctic breeze while at my desk. I can tolerate heat, but the cold is another story - I type for a living, and it gets downright painful if the temperature is not right. How I sort of solved the problem is by having a little personal space heater - can you do that or would it violate any office policies? Mine has been a deity-send when I needed a little more warmth. I have to put up with people not believing me that I am cold, but I think, tough - I do what I do to make myself comfortable.
Someone mentioned the vent above your desk should be closed - since it is your work space, you might be able to get the office manager to agree (so you have permission if the topic comes up) and have the maintenance workmen do that for you. It does make a difference

This is a good suggestion...I was just being ornery and not very helpful.

The guy was just a visitor in our office. He had a really stocky build & was somewhat overweight. So I am sure that he was feeling warm. Our office has 3 air conditioners. The main one doesn't work all that well, but in the vent overhead above my desk, I do feel cool air blowing out...it's not arctic though! For that I am grateful! I hate having to go in actual offices with doors because some other workers keep their rooms like meat lockers. I find that very unpleasant. Jeeze, if I wanted to work in those conditions, I'd take a job with a refrigerator room! I have had to have space heaters at past jobs, my current job is less uncomfortable temperature wise than most. The vents in our office cannot be closed...they are the ones that are flat with no mechanism to close. I have even suggested several times that we put up plexiglass squares about 6 inches below the vents to divert the airflow so it doesn't just blow down. But it has yet to happen.
What really bugged me is this visitor has the nerve to make a comment that *he* was not cold at all. Number 1, he was just a visitor. 2, I was NOT addressing him at all, but one of my co-workers. The other annoying thing about the visitor was that he had his son with him, & wasn't bothering to keep an eye on him. His son was distracting me by snooping around our office. (Going into executive's offices.) It's not my place to babysit someone else's kid, especially for someone who is not an employee. I feel the visitor should have been less rude, & kept his kid out of trouble. Luckily, he was only there short term. I'm sure he won't be there today! So that is some good news! Usually, our visitors are totally polite! Yyesterday, was a stressful day over all, & I just didn't appreciate having this guy stroll in like he owned the place! I really wanted to say something...so taking the paperwork to my co-workers' desk was a good way for me to diffuse & keep my job!
If he was flirting it went right over my head! LOL Doc & Droopy, maybe you are both right! Thanks to everyone who commented about the jerk in the office! I feel so much better now!

I run into the same problem all the time. People here what they want to hear or expect you to say... or they try to "interpret" your meaning. I scream this at everyone... I SAY EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO SAY.
That is so hard for people to understand, they constantly appear to be finding the "meaning" behind what others say. When all you do is state exactly what you mean, they have a hard time figuring it out.

He probably just came in from the summer heat too, I bet? Hopefully this guy doesn't visit too often, anyway. Gads, but I know the frustration of the untethered child too. I find parents just assume that part of the job of a female staff member is to take care of their bratlings. Many just sit and watch as little timmy jr. roars down into one of our doctors offices or heads down to the lab (and our senior doctor has come out with child in hand, and told the junior doctor to keep better control of his patients, bless him!). I fear that one of the little darlings is going to stick their hand in a sharps container, and then we will have a lawsuit on our hands. Some of these parents are really oblivious - it took one small child to be hit by a door one day before the parent decided it wasn't a good idea for little timmy jr. to be playing right in front of it, sigh.
I also had an annoying day last week with the bosses kids - well, more with the behavior of the extreme NT at the front desk who fancies herself best friends with the bosses wife. She brought over the eldest (who was actually behaving herself and wasn't making noise) and had her "answering" the office phone - right next to my desk. I couldn't say a thing. First, you don't teach small children that daddy's office is one big playground. Secondly, it isn't cute. Third, don't annoy co-workers. Thankfully, after one of the twin boys stood up under the desk and there was a resounding "thud" as his head connected to the underside of it, mommy came in and gathered her children.
