I still don't know, but if you could believe it, I had a hunch I had some form of autism when I was 17, and I never heard of aspergers. I knew my problems went way beyond the realm of my dx, which was attention deficit disorder.

The defining moment will be when I get an official diagnosis.

I had people here on WrongPlanet accuse me off not being autistic because I did not have a proper diagnosis. They pretty much called me a poser but I proved those biggotted as*holes wrong. 8) :P

As for how it changed my outlook on life nothing has really changed except I now know I am not crazy I am just really weird.

The only reliable way to find out if you have AS or not (or whatever) is to do excessive reading on it. Articles, blogs, WP, other autism related sites and books, etc. Look for other mental disorders as well. On top of it I felt the need for "proper" professional evaluation, so I applied for it, and currently I'm going through the evaluation process. Beside I hope for getting some help with it, I feel similarly to Todesking. If you are unsure, I'd recommend these steps.

I happened to see a very brief trailer for the movie 'Adam' and instantly recognised myself in the main character.
- I had never heard of Asperger's, I just knew that I was 'that same as' the Adam character

My extensive research and diagnosis then confirmed my instincts.

My un-defining moment.

On and off I've been somewhat scared that I had the condition. I have carefully turned every stone over and found ADHD elements that account for the behavior. There are close (anecdotal) behaviors in PI, that correspond to this, such as repetitive thoughts routines, and obsessions.

The irony is I've found only females with ADD( so far 4), that closely match myself in this assessment. It can look very close, and I'll gladly take the lesser one. Phew!

All in all it's disabling, I'm still learning on many levels of the global effect this has had on me.
