Anybody know what FIOS is? & how its different from comc
I know this seems like an unrelated autism question but its affecting my autism, im just getting use to comcast, now my mother wants to change to FIOS and im freaking out because im use to on demand, the free movies, use to how comcast works! I'm afraid to meltdown big time, i already had like 3-4hour meltdown saturday night where i took huge rocks to my head, almost tore through my door, almost destroyed my boyfriends car, and headbanged against the concrete so hard, i literally blacked out ! Does anybody know if FIOS you get on demand or free movies or how it works, or anything about it, or if its worth switching from comcast to FIOS?

Well, we certainly know that you aren't an Aspie now. Fios is the better service over Comcast. Pros being faster internet, better TV picture from the signal being Internet Protocol Television instead of the analog/digital combination Comcast uses. Higher bandwidth also means better phone service although not very significant. I have noticed that the cable boxes have a better interface and change channels faster with Fios. Also, Fios has significantly more channels and not just PPV channels and channels that have nothing to watch.
One thing I don't like about Fios is there misleading advertising schemes. The fact is that Fiber optic cables are not important and that the cables in your house are copper anyways. Also, Comcast uses fiber optic cables so they are not exclusive.
In layman's terms that are more relevant to your situation. Fios has better OnDemand, and everything with cable and cableboxes is very intuitive. They design there systems for people with below average IQ's to be able to use it. I believe that it is worth switching to Fios from Comcast but make sure that you know why you are doing it. I hate to see people make a purchase based on false advertising they do not recognize due to a lack of subject knowledge. I would though like to compliment you on being this open-minded. You would be surprised how many people have $25 a month AOL dial-up when you can get DSL for $10 a month or AOL high speed for the same price as there dial-up. You should move passed this ignorance and use your ability as a consumer to shop and compare. Not doing so would be stupid. My recommendation would be to switch to Verizon Fios.

They both CLAIM to basically do the same thing.
COMCAST is an expanded CABLE network and may provide the STANDARD cable, which may be enhanced, and can also include internet broadband and phone over the cable.
FIOS is a service offered by Verizon and provides the STANDARD phone over a fiberoptic connection with internet broadband, and may provide cable type service over the fiber optic line.
Basically, @home and roadrunner came up with a way to offer internet over standard cable and, though @home went bankrupt, the cable companies now try to provide it. THAT opens up other services like phone.
The PHONE companies have seen OTHERS take their service and use it to do things, like comcast is doing, and a few years ago decided to add extra bandwidth to offer TV.
In short, they are trying to compete with one another. Your channels may change, etc... and FIOS is NOT offered everywhere, but you might not see much difference. I think the starting price is about the same in either case.

Hope that helps!

Still doesn't change my recommendation.
Well, FIOS is SUPPOSEDLY basically a trunk line. So it can be over normal phone lines. HOW do you figure it would be slightly worse? POTS means NO DAC problems, NO ADC problems, NO package delays, NO arbitrary frequency limits. Hell, with a good connection, analog cellphone networks work ok. EVEN with a good connection, digital cellphone networks can have delays, and odd packet errors.
Still, it IS conceivable it could be VOIP, though I doubt it. Besides, it would kind of defeat the idea of switches, etc... Comcast is VOIP because they have internet over CABLE. FIOS is basically a trunk line.
And I don't know about the digital comcast, but standard comcast is standard cable, EVEN with the internet and voip running over it. BTW I have comcast with internet. I WOULD have gotten voip, but they basically destroyed other voip capability, and I had vonage. I didn't like that.
