AS and smart really have no correlation, you shouldn't think low of yourself.

People with asperger's have normal to elevated intelligence the fact you forget things means your human ^_^ not stupid, people tell me I'm smart all the time but I forget things like you do. By the way do you forget what day it is much??? I do it all the time if I didn't have a calendar on my computer I wouldn't know what month it is let alone what day.

By the way cool picture of L, L is the coolest. Oh and doesn't L act like an aspie??

Kind of know what you think, I often forget things, it is like my memory is smaller then normal people, I cant remember the days and order of the months, nor do I know any phone nombers. I suck at tests but my true ability comes from the way of thinking and that is what sets us apart. I was bad at maths but I sudnley taught myself some shortcuts at it and that is how I can do things like accounting, I think instead of being smart it is more that we just have different ways of thinking, maybe even from the fact we have bad memories.

Well depending upon where you were diagnosed the diagnosis of Asperger's will mean something different. Asperger's in many US schools of though (including TEACCH which does huge amounts of diagnosing) means you are in the middle of the spectrum, between classic autism and PDD-NOS. The example they gave me is that someone with Asperger's could have an IQ of like 135 and not be able to make themselves food or live on their own ever, it's got to do more with functioning level than IQ.

So your diagnosis could be accurate, depending upon what Asperger's meant to the person diagnosing you. In the UK Asperger's is the highest functioning on the spectrum so it's hard to say who is right.

I just got diagnoised, and as part of the assesment the psychologist had me do an iq test.
It wasn't the score that was actually relevant though.
Anyway, i scored the lowest on memory and still got diagnoised as an aspie. I was told it could possibly be related to anxiety. Are you often too anxious to take things in properly and remember them? I get this a lot and i too think i'm not that bright. It could just be a confidence issue? I didn't expect to do well in the iq test and mine came out fine.

lol no, i think you're thinking of dyslexia?
Anxiety is defined as " distress or uneasiness of mind caused by fear of danger or misfortune:"
Basically being overly nervous/apprehensive in normal every day situations.
It can cause your mind to race, which would explain why it's difficult to take things in..

There's meds that can help and also therapy.
There's a ton of different kinds of therapy, but i've heard a lot of good things about Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which basically challenges the way you think and attempts to change it (creating more positive thinking) . Difficult if you don't like talking about your feelings though.

Do you think your memory problems are related to anxiety?
