THe driving age where I live in Victoria, Australia is 18 and I am now 28. In April 2007 after four tries I finally got my learner permit and have been praticing driving ever since in 28 days I will be going for my probationary licence. If I pass I will get a probationary licence that wil allow me to drive alone with restrictions for three years. Most of my aspie friends either dont drive or got their probationary licence late a friend just passed last week he is 32. How old were people here when they got their licence?

Here in Norway the driving age is 18, I failed my first try, but one month later I got my drivers license at the age of 19. My dad bought me a car for my 17th birthday and I still drive it. A 86mod Toyota Corolla. But I hate the colour - Red.

In the US, it's 16. I got my permit Sophomore year of High School, but I never bothered finishing behind the wheel, so I still don't have a license. I just walk everywhere. I need the exercise anyway.

17 when I got a car licence. 22 when I got a motorbike licence. Perhaps this year I'll go for a heavy rigid licence (it's 1300 bucks :x).

I've owned a car once but I prefer the motorbike, it is cheaper and more fun, but les practical and more dangerous.

Catster2: keep practicing, remember your blind spots, and check your mirrors every 10 seconds :D

It's actually dependent on the type of license you get. In Texas, you can get one at 14. It's called a hardship license. So it's only to be used getting to and from school/work. No one else is allowed in the car with you.

Where I am, in CT, I think they just passed a law that if you're 16, you can't have other teens in the vehicle. Then at 18, you can. I just turned 26 this past weekend. I've only had my license for two weeks. I finally *had* to do it because my kids therapy/school schedule doesn't match up with my husband's work schedule.

No it depends on which state you are in (see below) each state has its own set of rules and driving ages, it is the same in Australia I have a 15 year old cousin in the USA and he has a licence.

I got my learners permit in January of last year and finally got my provisional licence just this past May.
I had my learners permit while I was in high school too, but I let it expire.

Each state does have it's own rules, but even within those rules, are other age limits. Some states have a license for people under 16 who need to work to provide for their family. They also have learner's permits.

Tidbit of info: My sister somehow got an Australian driver's license because they thought her learner's permit was an actual license. She's never had to take a road test because of this mistake. Also, if you're looking at a website that doesn't update regularly, some of the rules don't apply any more.

Oh. And it seems that Texas has moved the hardship license age since I was a teenager. I know it used to be 14.. They've changed it to 15 now.

Yes, every state here has their own rules, they are fairly similar, although some like changing them from time to time. I got my license when I was 16, right before one of the big rule changes. Under the rules I got my license with, you had to be 16 to get temps, 8 classroom hours, and (i think) 10 road hours with a driving instructor. Just a couple days after I got my license, new rules took effect, and you could then get temps at 15.5, but had to have them for 6mos before taking the driving test. also the classroom hours were extended to 12, and IIRC, the instructor lead road hours doubled.
