I don't know if such a thing exists or not, but wouldn't it be cool to have a place for people with Aspergers or others on the spectrum to have a place to seek employment? Maybe a section of WP could be for this purpose or some other site associated?

Perhaps Autism friendly employers could post jobs.

Perhaps the same place, section of WP, or site could also list places to get job training that are Autism friendly?

Just an idea :)

I could see it working for the larger cities, but its kind of pointless since everyone on here are from all over the place, actally I would see if a local autistic society has any input, especially in regards to employment in your area.

^Spudnik's new avatar reminds me of The Big Lebowski. :D

I think an aspie job board is a good idea, but wonder how many companies would really post.

IF we put together an Aspie job board, we will very likely have a couple of employers along with hundreds of job seekers. In order to have different, we would have to market the Aspie board along with the good Spectrumite traits to potential employers. If employers knew that autistic people are generally very loyal, reliable, honest, and do well in what they are interested in, they would come on board. However, it would take verious postings on company related boards to get the message out.

I'd like to see a few links to places that actually hire people, rather than route them to websites that are designed to just gather personal data or to sell something.

Plus, it would be great if the jobs being offered paid more than the federal or state minimum wage, offered some health benefits, and involved something other than part-time, clerical, sales, or unskilled labor.

Here's one I found in the work forum

http://autism.nlconcepts.com/tool/mb/nlconcepts

And another someone else pointed me toward

http://www.jobsforautism.com/

Navigation on this one could really use some work -- there's a link sort of buried amidst the poorly formatted content toward the bottom to the "jobs for autism blog" which based on the text looks to me like the place they want people to post jobs or availability.

Edinburgh has something kind of similar, an agency that supports people with AS in finding employment, and within employment. I used this service in the past and it was useful.

HELLUVA good idea.

Might be good even in sparsely populated areas; some work can be done remotely.

U could get a gov't grant for that kinda idea.

Wouldn't an Aspie job board basically single us out, and make us look like we can't handle "Normal" jobs, and therefore reinforce the idea of us being disabled?

Someone at my college told me of an organisation that specialised with finding jobs for as/hfa people. But I can't find out more until I see her again. xD

Seems like a good idea.

This was my thought exactly. I would never use it for this reason. I would never want to apply for a job that considered an "Aspie" job because therefore it's inferring that it's not as good as a normal job.

Some of us who have a hard time with sensory issues/social skills might benefit. I don't think it's a case of it not being as good as a normal job- just more suited to our needs.

I like the idea quite a bit. To avoid the fear of stigmatization, it'd have to present our strengths first.

"Do you want an employee who knows the job so well it's unearthly? Shows up on time every time? Won't engage in stupid, pointless office politics? Is honest? Focused? Knowledgeable? Expert in whatever it is they do? Quiet unless asked questions? THEN HAVE WE GOT THE PERSONS FOR YOU!! ! Whole crowds of 'em. Just call or click . . ."

I would think it couldn't succeed unless it had better jobs. After all, the minimum wage jobs, etc... can be found at the employment office, and THEY would probably subsidize the employer.
