How many of you become embarrassed about something you did earlier as your understanding of social interactions increases? For example, you are asked a question to which you respond thinking nothing of it. Sometime later, after the passage of minutes or decades, you suddenly cringe when you mentally replay the incident realizing that you entirely misunderstood the question thus responding to your misunderstanding of the question not the question itself. It was as if you were engaged in another conversation entirely. You remember the look of bewilderment, perhaps subtle if they were minding their manners, on the face of the other half of your conversation. Has this ever happened to you in a more public setting? In front of a classroom full of people?

I think I spelled 'embarrassed' incorrectly... too many r's or too many s's?
P.S. I am an English teacher.

I don't ever remember doing that in front of a class but I definitely do remember times when I've done it in front of a small group of people.
I do remember once giving a speech about a topic that we were not covering in class (it was just my special interest). I felt really embarrassed. I don't cringe about it anymore. What happened happened and no one probably remembers it but me.

Since getting diagnosed in November, I've been having these kinds of moments a lot. I think oh, G-d, I can' believe I did THAT on pretty much a daily basis, and each time, it's a different memory I'm reacting to. I've gotta say, I'm not dealing with it well. I feel a lot of shame about these things, even though I realize it wasn't my fault I was deaf, dumb, and blind regarding the situation. I've felt shame about myself for most of my life, and it's a hard habit to break, even though my mind tells me I have nothing to be ashamed of.

I suffer more from delayed disgust.

Yes, happens to me all the time. I'll react and then it can be seconds or decades later, I cringe when with newer insight I realize it was a social blunder.

This happens to me with dismal regularity. It used to drive me nuts, now I simply don't like it.

Many times. I also sometimes speak out my thoughts, at least when I went to school, I did. I remember one day in class, I was like in my own world and just floated, could not concentrate on my work. Right in front of me was a girl named Liv. I had allways percepted her hair color as black, but now, in my mind, I noticed that in fact it was more like brown, so I spoke out; "hey, Liv's hair is not black, it's brown". Many days before I know that we have discussed some aspects about hair color and eyes, brown or blue..etc. But this remark, just seemed to the others, as it came out of the blue. Very much laughter in class, and me turning red.
Had similar experiences later, but not as distinct. I allways seems to explain me out of the situation.
About your spelling; I do it all the time. The thoughts are faster than my ability on the keyboard. So I often skip or add letters, even in my own language

Often enough, which makes me appreciate my shyness in groups, i feel enough like an idiot when it happens in front of one person, in front of a group is just absolute torture.

It is almost crippling at times. It is one of the main things that gets me depressed.

Thats true, and besides who is going to care? They probably remembered it at the time and quickly forgotten about it. I know for myself I have done plenty of things that were embarrassing but didn't realize it back then. If I remember it decades later, I just laugh it off and think to myself "so what did I know back then?"
