Do you learn some things wickedly fast (and others hardly)?

With me, I either learn fast or don't learn.

I also learnt how to play an instrument (a keyboard), how to read notations to read a sheet and how to play music from it on the keyboard and how to use both hands on a keyboard in about 3 hours by myself.

I think that was fast. Though I don't know how long others need.

On the other hand, I had 3 years of a foreign langauge class and I learnt nothing except most of the letters and a few single words and how to say 'that is...'.

Anyone else learn some things fast and others hardly at all?

Yep, same thing here. I can learn a computer language in no time at all. But with natural languages it's near impossible. Especially pronunciation, since I don't here differences in details. So somebody tells me, that I've pronounced it wrong and I don't hear, what's different from what I've said.

I had a similar experience with music. But it was limited to the more technical aspects. I was able to do some slightly complicated lessons where it was necessary to use fingers of both hands independently. But for the artistic part: No chance. I'll never be a musician, at least not for the kind of music I like. Maybe I could do some complex composed music with, but to get the rhythm of a song will never do for me. That for I'm a very bad dancer.

In some other areas I found out, that taking interest in them can change things a lot. I hated sports at school and was very bad, but later I took a linking to sports and found it much less difficult.

More general: I can learn things easy that I'm interested in or that are related in a logical way to each other.

I'm not musical so instruments are not an issue with me. I learn all language-based subjects very easily. I did Latin in school and Latin and Ancient Greek in university.

I'm reasonably good at maths and science and I have a "gift" for computers and machines.

I find the only problem I have with learning is that I frequently find it too easy and I get bored and lose interest. I don't really have to study very much either as I usually don't forget things until a few years have passed. I just read and remember.

I'm usually terrible at learning sports or physical activities because I used to be very self-conscious and awkward so I usually gave up before I got good at the sport or activity.

Learned how to play music instruments alone. Can fix computers and other devices without a manual however...

I have difficulty multi-tasking in some functions like I've tried to play on stage before but my brain was having a hard time keeping up processing all the information. I had to "move correctly" which I did not. Had to play everything correctly which I slipped up at first, had to try to not pay attention to the crowd because it was overwhelming.

For the past year, I've been experimenting with socializing more. Feels strange yes but learning new concepts and finally getting why people do certain things that I never quite understood before.

mhm thats me. i can do anything thats hands-on. i can cook, sew, crochet, knit, paint, draw, sculpt, and i play 4 different instruments profficiently *nod nod*

a more recent thing ive learned really fast is this one song by a local metal band im trying to get into. ive been playing the godly-fast guitar parts on my bass no problem, with only an hours practice a day for two days. thats two hours. im not finished learning the song though ive got more than half of it down lol

edit : the band im trying to get into by learning their music is requesting i record my progress, i might post it somewhere here if i feel it worthy of showing off  but if someone doesnt want me to, thats good too

I was a bit of a musical savant when I was younger, had the same musical experience. I am a fast reader and can learn verbal things and patterns very quickly; I taught myself to write backwards at a young age.
However, for some reason, I was never able to learn chemistry. And physical education? Forget it.
Not to mention the obvious social things.

My native language being Spanish, I was able to learn to read Catalan by handling some documents I had to upload to a website that were a translated version of my work. Knowing what I already had written, and comparing with the new material, I became proficient in written Catalan in about one month.

I do learn things very quickly but only when I want to learn... For example, I have a natural aptitude for languages and did learn English (verbal, reading and writing) in a few years at a rather young age (13-14), but French and German, which I did not like for different reasons (one for being the ancient enemy of Great Britain and the language of stuck up people here in Flanders, the other for being the language of the Nazis), I refused to learn. I did have to change my mind about French later on as in Belgium one needs French for one's job, so I sort of picked it up along the way, albeit not very enthusiastically. I also refused to learn grammar in any language, never use it, do not know it, but still manage to form decent sentences. This pattern has repeated itself in many instances during my whole life: things I liked and wanted to learn I learn effortlessly, things I did not like and refused to learn caused my brain to shut itself off from that specific learning process completely. Sadly, the things I do know a lot about tend to be not very usefull in the job market: cooking, English 19th century literature, cats and dogs, all things peculiar to Great Britain, medieval and 19th century (British) history, Oscar Wilde, the Pre-Raphaelites, English poetry, the art of drawing... I would have made a rather good governess a hundred years ago but do not fit in now.
Does anyone else have the ability to reproduce drawings almost identically - I just put the original in front of me, start at a arbitrary point on a blank sheet and reproduce the original almost perfectly? Can anyone else do that? I presume it is typically autistical, especially as I do not use a rough sketch, as other (normal) artists do, but just start at point A and copy it?
Anyway, to come back to your original question: I found I could learn anything I put my mind to (if it did not involve motor skills - my hand-feet co-ordination is hopeless), if and only if I wanted to learn it, otherwise I have always refused point blank to have anything further to do with it...

The BEST way to learn grammer is to WANT to speak right, and be exposed to good speakers of the language. Otherwise, it becomes a lot of confusing rules.

BTW I REFUSED to learn spanish for similar reasons. would it help you to know that Hitler is NOT german, and has a HORRIBLE "accent". He makes German sound BAD! It can actually sound NICE!

And not all the french are stuck up.

I've done pretty well in the past. At one point, I kind of took it up as a hobby, though I only did like 10 little pictures. I did a REALLY nice one of a budgy I had!

Yep. I'm generally a really fast learner and there are certain things that I learn very fast. There are some things I have a hard time learning though. Those are mostly things that are not specific enough for me. If something is very broad and not explained in detail, I have a hard time learning it.

yup, thats how i learned to draw. i stopped drawing a while back though because things just got so boring.. i ran out of interesting things to draw. i could probably post some drawings elsewhere on here if i felt the need to. but its all anime stuff that i dont care about anymore.

I don't learn anything fast.
I process things in a way that is much slower than average, but eventually leads me to a higher than average depth of understanding.
Yep, I could add "processing disorder" to all the other diagnosis I could have.
I seem pretty stupid the first few months of school, but once I get to taking the final, it's all good 8)

Things I learned quickly: reading and languages. I also amassed a large amount of factual material.

Things I didn't learn as quickly include math and social skills.
