They kind of remind me of myself when I was that age. I was constantly trying to make new visual special effects. Your son has added a few in his video I noticed.
If he is like me, he will soon start playing around with animation and digital effects such as chromakey, morphing and tweening. Those were all big deals when I was a kid, but they are easy now with the computer. Animation is done with a digital still camera and the frames are linked together to make a video. I'm talking about animation with real objects such as books and lamps and bicycles that ride themselves. Then additive animation would be where one boy would point an umbrella at another and then the the firing flames from a machine gun would be digitally added to make it look like the umbrella was a machine gun. Then other scenes where cars and buildings are digitally riddled with bullet holes.
In the old days, say with the Knight Rider car which was bullet proof, they would fire those snap pops at the car with a slingshot. Those are the little fireworks things that pop when you throw them at something. They are totally harmless, but they make a nice snap and spark when they hit. Filmed in low light, they make it look like the Knight Rider car was being hit with bullets when it wasn't. One word of caution is that they might leave a mark. They also hurt when they hit other people.
Anyhow, I suggest for his next birthday that you get him a tripod for the camera(s). They are only about $20 and make a big difference.
Excellent advice from you~Thank YOU!~
