Humour and autism?

Hi there,
Some say or think that (H.-F.) autists don't have humour. I don't think that's true. Maybe we tend to be a bit serious at times. O.K.. I think we all have a sence of humour but maybe it differs a bit from the NT-population. When I laugh I tend to really s**t my pants, oeps. And with humour I don't like I really go a bit sad. Off course to each his/her taste. For example I like English humour on the BBC. Shows like QI, Mock the week or Never mind the buzzcocks, I find hilarious. Can you relate to this or am I a bit odd in this too?

It's kind of hard to tell what will make me laugh and what won't, although I usually find things that contain a lot of swearing to be particularly amusing, such as the "Angry RV Salesman/Winnebago Man", "Tourettes Guy" and "Grandma's Kisses" videos on Youtube.

I know I have a sick sense of humor, I can't stand stand up comedy, where the comedian stands there and waits for you to laugh, the only ones I do like are Robin Williams, George Carlin, and Mitch Hedberg, he was so funny.

That's something I don't tend to have a problem with, but on a rare occasion I have said a phrase as a joke and gotten the "what the crap look?" from those around me. I have been told I have a good sense of humor and I do feel a bit bad for people like the woman I know who said she can't understand or tell a joke if her life depended on it.

'specialists' say even worse if are LFA-are supposed to be completely disconnected,yet am have basic childish humour [giving,not understanding it],things like opening toilet door whilst toilet is being used by someone else,putting anything heavy can find on the floor into staffs handbags,and playing human buckaroo with the nightstaff-if they go to go to sleep accidentally,am pile things on them until they buck.
when am lived at home,am would wait for mum to go to sleep next to am,and get a permenant marker pen and colour in her skin.

I don't think most jokes or stand up comedy is funny. Anything absurdist or involving clever word play I think is funny. Groucho Marx & Peter Cook are the 2 funniest humans who ever lived.

I like dry, British humor. As Time Goes By is my favorite sitcom ever.

I also find authors Dave Barry and Stanley Bing very funny.

Since I work around the legal profession (populated with many Aspies, no doubt!), I've also adopted a taste for wordplay and the (ever-so-slightly) macabre and cynical.

Did anyone here have the following experience?

Someone tells a dirty and/or slang filled joke then repeats it because you don't laugh, then explains it despite you saying that you understand the joke and just don't think it's funny.

I do like some dirty/slang jokes but not many.

that is defintely not true, actually thats one of the reasons my boyfriend liked me so much is because of my humor and how i can be soo funny

Being Normal Is Vastly Overrated

guess people think this because we often have trouble 'getting' traditional jokes or even realising when someone has made a joke. I often watch other autistic people giving overly serious responses in situations where it's not expected, too. I guess I do that myself sometimes. Generally, more of our conversation is often given over to serious subjects than to lighthearted chatting, and "banter".

I think everyone who really knows me realises I do have a sense of humour.

I have a good sense of humour. I enjoy British, Irish and American comedy. I watch Father Ted, South Park, Family Guy, Futurama, Arrested Development, Peepshow, The Office etc.

I tend to fail spectacularly at being funny.
And a lot of the time, I can't tell when a person in regular life is telling a joke.

However, I do appreciate the obvious ones.
And I do love oddball comedy movies (not what Hollywood necessarily calls "comedy"), and stand-up comedy (though I may have sacrilegious tastes there also).

I don't have any issue with understanding most kinds of humor, even ironic humor. I have some trouble with certain kinds of dry sarcasm that people use to be rude to someone who they think is too dumb to understand the slight. I can detect that with slightly over 50% certainty, or I am too stupid to detect when someone is using dry sarcasm to make fun of me less than 50% of the time.

I often miss jokes, and I often laugh at things that no one else thinks are funny. Like minute human errors, for example. Most people don't even notice them.
