I'm writing a Letter to send out to websites, and to Fox and The LA times. I'd like them to know that they have their facts wrong, and we are not diseased. we have aNeurological problem, we are not mentally Ill, and this is not like cancer, and no you can not catch it. People need to know. I'm going to show everybody! I need to set up a special Email account so I can get their messages back and such...but i might do it. or maybe if it's from Wrong Planet they will change it??? I'd also like to request that they removed anything on their website, or whatever that suggests that it's a disease but I don't want to demand it. Please help!! !! !!

Lots of differnet websites have said things like that. one in particular mentioned that since it is a disease it is easily catchable, and since people can't tell by looking at us who has it, they get close to us and catch it. horrified me...*starts hunting for the link* erggg can't find it. but, Ilikedragons, thats my goal, to make sure people understand that this is NOT catchable, we are safe normal people. well, somewhat normal...

I've looked up 'disease' in dictionary.com and it states:

Quote:
1. A pathological condition of a part, organ, or system of an organism resulting from various causes, such as infection, genetic defect, or environmental stress, and characterized by an identifiable group of signs or symptoms.
2. A condition or tendency, as of society, regarded as abnormal and harmful.
3. Obsolete. Lack of ease; trouble.

So they are using it as another term for condition, rather than what is often thought to be a destructive, progressive, attacking etc illness,eg cancer.

I'm fed up of the term being used to describe neurological conditions by select professionals because it's outdated, and wrong.
Hope they take notice of your letter.

ShadesOfMe,
PLEEEASE don't do this unilaterally. Please get the advice of WP's administration, and maybe they can help you get taken seriously too. :)
