Does anyone else get sensory overload from members avatars?

This is no dig at members nor is it a request for them to change thaier avatars to something still.
I'm just curious if others get sensory overload from avatars.

I get it from Hale bopp's and Nomaken's that I can remember off the top of my head!!
it's ok if I look directly at them but if i'm reading the post then out of the corner of I eye I see the avatar and get overload!!

It's not a problem though, so don't worry

x x x Debra

EDIT:

just come 2 more TheOrangeMage and Ilikedragons. but yeah generally moving ones.

Yeah, nothing personal against anyone (because it's my problem, not theirs), but I have to admit that any avatar that flashes or has any kind of movement bothers me. There's just something about that type of visual input - it messes with my head. Some ads on webpages are the same, I can't handle them either... just one of those facts of life for an aspie. In your browser you should be able to disable animations, but the problem I found with that was it'll disable stuff that you want to see too (like the radar loop on the weather page), and some of the stuff you were trying to block still moves. If I can, I usually just scroll/move the page to block the movement so I can't see it. With some ads though you can right click on them and uncheck a 'play' option.

Yeah I have so much trouble with web ads, i have to come out of the site or stick postit notes over them just to be able to read the text on the site.

I will try your suggestion though, thanks.

Any that have large amounts of neon yellow or green and any ones that blink rapidly. I don't have a problem with people choosing these avatars, however, and I've just learned to ignore the ones that bother me.

I also wouldn't want them to change their avatars because I've learned to identify who is posting by avatar if I am in a hurry. :)

I tend to identify users by their avatars and their siglines, as well. :D

And the head-eating one is definitely scary. I find it quite disturbing. :S

People should try downloading Firefox - it has an ad-blocking function.

Lazarus' avatar bothers me. But as Namiko said, I wouldn't ask him (her?) to change it just because *I* find it hard to look at. It does mean I whizz past Lazarus' posts real fast, but hey :-).

Please don't shoot me.....the Lazarus I was thinking of isn't on this board, but a different one I visit. :nerdy: :shameonyou: His (her?) signature contains a vividly flashing animation that I find very hard to look at.

Anway, thanks so much, DivaD -- your tip on Esc works like a charm!! (I use Firefox, so can't comment on whether it works in IE.)

You've made my week :-).

We don't allow animation (or images, at all really) in signatures because of the fact that people abuse signatures by taking up half of the page with some sort of weird flashing thing.

I too, thank you for this.

Whoever said its good not to change the avatars are they are good for recognition, I agree with you. I feel I know people by them.

any that move or flash give me serious difficulties.

may as well point out that avatars are supposed to conform to the parameters described in the avatar profile (what you get when you upload one on your profile). it would save an awful lot of headaches if people kept to those parameters... sigh...

I hate Nomaken's avatar mainly because I hate anime and I don't think it's funny or cool.

I don't have any sensory problems with avatars except it did take awhile to get used to Nomaken's without staring at it for about five minutes with every post.

I do have greater problems with people who use the standard avatar smileys 'cause many members will use the same one and I end up getting people mixed up until I reread their names. I prefer the individual avatars, like faces, which are harder to confuse than names (except for those members who change their avatar every week, then it gets confusing again).
