I was speaking to my sister about a bridal shower for my "distant" cousin's fiancee.

She didn't remember him. I mentioned that we used to go over to his house and get red kool-aid when we were children. THe other thing I didn't mention but thought of, was of playing on a rock with him and his siblings (I think there were 3 of them, but I can only remember 1 of his siblings).

The sibling I can remember is my sisters age - I remember her mentioning this cousin approached her when they transfered into our school. My sister had no memory of the kool-aid. SHe was asking ridiculous unimportant questions like "What did she look like?" "Was she a little heavy with red hair?"

Who would remember something like that when there was a rock and red kool-aid

YAH! I agree, who cares about what she looked like... the rock and kool-aid is a lot more important :)

You just remember what interested you! I remember weird stuff too. When I was a real little kid I remember going to New Jersey (remember thinking of it as a ''new jersey'' that you wear) to visit someone who had 2 kids, Welsh Corgis (I was a dog show brat), and a swing set. Who were these people? Dog people, I assume, but other than that... blank.

when i was 6 y/o, i was in hospital. i can tell you exactly how the room looked like to very small details, (i tipped over an yougurt and then the nurse had to clean it :) ), where the other rooms where located and what was in them, but i have no recollection of the people there. they are just moving objects to me even today 23 years later.

she isnt trying to remember the time, just the person as you have asked her to recall

You're missing the point. I wasn't trying to remember the time, or instill any memories of the time - thats how I remember the people involved

She thinks red hair -chunky-Kim. I think koolaid-rock-Kim. My associating Kim with red koolaid and pop is no different than someone else remembering John as the man in the ice cream truck. Bringing up the fact he drove around in an ice cream truck doesn't mean you are trying to recall the time it took you to decide between a fudgecicle and an ice cream cone. It just means you are recalling things that were always around about him when trying to remember him

I remember odd stuff.

And I'm useless at remembering what people look like. But I'm more a 'words' person.
