So my new neurologist calls back and tells me, i have moderate functioning skills, which include my stimming, my sensory issues, my self injurious, my verbal iq being not high, my self help skills, my way of thinking, along with my socializing behavior is of a 5 year old, during my most strongest thinking moments, its of a 14 year old, but my mind as an autistic is high functioning, how i interact is high functioning, how i can speak, sometimes even very well is high functioning, the fact i can have a boyfriend and can drive is high functioning. My obvious need a strict routine, obivously have no care for socializing, obvious stimming, obvious sensory issues, obvious need for assistance, and obvious communication problems that would all fit you in the criteria for classic autism. He said the only symptoms i see that is not classic though is how you can give eye contact, how you can have a conversation and can handle many social situations. It seems those traits you learned to adapt as you grew older.
He said the difference between high functioning autism and aspergers is the obvious, people around you can see, he said somebody with aspergers you can't always notice their sensory issues, or that their stimming, or the fact that they need assistance, while somebody with high functioning autism is more noticable when displaying autistic traits which i found interesting. He said but overall differences between aspergers and HFA are not much different, except people with aspergers seem more prone to socializing but are very misunderstood to how to, and people with autism seem more prone to ignore the social situations and rather don't care for why they dont understand. He also some people would say people with autism have more severe sensory issues, and more noticable stimming, which i tend to agree with, but other doctors will not see a difference there. The language delay doesn't always pertain to HFA, a lot of people diagnosis children with aspergers even though they have a language delay and diagnosis children with autism but high functioning even though they didn't have a language delay.
He said overall your defintely on the spectrum, more on the lower end due to your skills but with your high functioning personality you can just about pass for an NT at times which would put you right in the middle. Considering all of that, i'm not going to put high or moderate functioning because your neither, theres times your high, moderate, and low, so i'm going to put down "functioning autistic disorder"!
Isnt that weird? I never ever heard of that one hahaha, but i found it interesting on what the said was the difference between aspergers and HFA. Anyways so yep there ya have it, i aint high or mod or low lol, im just functioning lol. I kinda love that label the best, because i consider myself high functioning because how i am, but with my moderate skills and my low functioning times, it was hard to explain to ppl, because some ppl saw my really high functioning side, and some saw my really low functioning side, it was soo confusing! What does everybody think of what my neurologist said? especially with how he said language delay doesnt always divide HFA and Aspergers?
