I was looking for chain mail when I happened upon this: http://www.camcreations.net/autism_index.html
Since I've been playing with the idea of using chain mail for jewelry, I'm now tempted to make a puzzle piece and wear it.

I know I've seen puzzle-piece jewelry elsewhere, and other autism-awareness items like wrist bands and such. So, how many of you actually wear these? Do you feel silly wearing puzzle pieces or logos? Do you have to explain them all the time?

Also, fidget toys seem like an awesome idea for those who need something to fidget with. They're also just a simple chain that would be easy to make, though I probably wouldn't use it.

I have puzzle earrings, though they're not really autism-inspired. And I made myself AS jeans. Does that count?

Cool! Yes, I would say they count. What do they look like?

They started off normal and then I just kind of doodled all over them. It says on huge letters on my legs "Aspies Rule" and "Autism is Sexy" and then there are all these nerdy jokes, as well as 'Warning: No Coordination.'

Once I was at a bookstore and a lady came up to me and said she was really offended by them (her kid is LFA). So I don't wear them much anymore, I'm scared of weird reactions. I'll have to post a picture some time.

hmm, i didn't even know that wearing puzzle pieces was supposed to show your support for autism awareness.
i don't wear any jewelry, can't stand it. i can't even wear sun glasses. fortunately i've got used to wearing clothes :D

but my website wears a logo 'think differently about autism' linking the think-differently.org.uk.

I didn't know puzzle pieces were supposed to represent autism, either.

I wouldn't wear anything like that and thats also because parents of LFA kids would be understandably offended. But the only thing that I did was create my own autism website awareness page and got an autism awareness ribbon magnet stuck onto the back of my car.

I don't see why the offence was there. It would've shown that there are multiple forms of autism on different levels. Sometimes LFA can progress into HFA. I wouldn't stop wearing them

I agree, why would that offend? Sounds to me like you were simply describing yourself and proud to be who you are. I guess there's always someone out there to be offended about something *sigh* I think the jeans were a cool idea, I wish I was more creative like that.

it is because autism is still only a word to describe classic autism for some.
am LFA w/ high complex needs; though not profoundly autistic, and do not find those sorts of words on things offensive because its their view of their autism, and there using a word [autism] that means a lot of things, not just profoundly autistic and/or LFA.
people need to get a bit more autism aware now,and not stay stuck in the olden days.
those who want to wear those type of things shouldnt be stopped from doing so just for having different needs to someone elses kid.

--
the nearest thing am would wear to those is a cloth strap based medic ID bracelet [which mentions the autism amongst other things, waiting to get one],that puzzle stuff means nothing to am.

I can only assume that person thought that you was making fun of it all. More of a stereotypical person I think

i wear shirts, and have a button on my purse, i dont think i offend anybody though because when i wear it, ppl just smile, even parents of severely autistics. I havent got any nasty comments yet, so who knows.

I enjoy doing puzzles, but puzzle pieces aren't something that I'd want to wear.

Interesting idea, but I chose the option "I don't wear jewelry" because I have sensory issues with jewelry.

I would have to presume the wording used is itself the key. As long as you look "normal" you therefore, must be normal and non autistic.

I love it when people presume
