i'm having problems transitionin from light to dark!
Ok i have a serious problem with transition, but this time the transition is from light to dark. Every tuesday i have class, and the room is extra lit up because its a signing lab class, so you need it to be very bright to see everybodys hands. Well im in the class from 6-840, everybody knows of my autism, i rock, flap, bite, stim every way you can think of and best part is everybody signs so its easy for me hehe. Well anyways right after class ends, i walk out and i get instantly dizzy and messed up, then get very angry, because my brain starts hurting from the transition from very bright to very dark, my tourettes start acting up to the point it hurts to walk, and then to top it all off, its very cold out lately, so my cold utercaria acts up and unless i get somewhere warm fast my throat could close and i could die . So i have to drive home, and when your driving and ticcing, then stimming, then gasping for air because you can't breathe, not a good combination, but the cold utercaria i can calm down because its only a 5min drive, but the ticcing makes it soo hard for me to drive and almost gets me in a car accident, along with the overstimulation. What starts the ticcing and the overstimulation is the transition from the light to dark
! I can't wear sunglasses in class because of the signing, nothing near the face even if its last 10mins in class, and sunglasses hurt my ears and nose, takes off my skin, and i was going to ask my professor to turn off the lights for 10mins before we leave so i can slowly adjust, but we can't because we need the lights for signing. Now its not just affectin my driving, when i get stressed like that, it doesnt only affect the tourettes and autism, but my cold utercaria gets worse, and i literally start melting down the second i walk in the door. I start headbanging seriously, i become very aggressive, just not happy at all
. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to help me with the transition from light to dark? any ideas or things i can request from my professor or that i could do?

I wish I had a suggestion. I am very curious about this, too.
My daughter has seizures that start in her occipital lobe, in the back of the brain, having to do with the eyes. If she transitions to quickly from dark to light, like leaving a movie theater, she has a very violent seizure.
thanks you all have great suggestions, but the fact is i cant carry anything, i already have to carry my books, so my arms are usually busy with that, the light visor i never heard of, i dont wear hats because the pressure against my forehead makes me overstimulated also haha, yea talk about lose/lose situation if that makes sense. I'm sorry about your daughter spacedoubt, i hope you find something for her as well!

What about maybe heating the car up and maybe haveing it bright in ther or something, maybe that could slow it down. or you could wear an eyepatch through your class so that one eye is already adjusted to dark, I dont know if that would work though.

Not sure if you always have it in the same room ? Just wondering if the lighting in the room has a dimmer switch and if it would be possible for you to stay an extra 10 minutes after class .. and have the lights gradually dimmed over the 10 minutes.. so you have a smooth transition and not a sudden one. Or failing that.. perhaps being able to stand in the doorway .. on the edge of light and dark for 5/10 minutes.. ( mostly inside so you do not get too cold) again to ease the transition .. From what you are speaking about it sounds as though it's the sudden nature of transition not the transition itself that causes the problem, so I would look at ways of doing it gradually .. as for carrying your books and not having a free hand for a flashlight .. what about a backpack ? Or bag that you carry over one shoulder. That leaves you with your hands free so you could try the flashlight thing ..
I cant wear an eye patch in class because my eyes have to be focuses on signing, and even if i sit and heat it up the car, and have it bright the damage is already done, its as soon as i walk out of the classroom then i gotta walk a bit to the car, but thanks so much...
Nah my class room doesnt have a dimmer but that would be a life savior, im a huge light switch person have to turn them on and off haha everybody just laughs but i know right away no dimmer if so i think somebody would kill me by now cuz all i would do is dim and bright then dim then bright lol. As for the bookbag, i cant carry a book bag anymore due to my backpain, which i think is a pinched nerve im waiting to see a doctor about that. Yea i really am very unlucky haha.
Thanks for all the suggestions, you all help me soooo much
