Beware: Spelling and badly worded things

I have been researching different mental dissabilities/differences since about 5th grade. I discovered aspergers in 7th grade and I think I have probably got it but I am unsure.

I have social problems, eyecontact, gestures, expressions, perfectionist, good long term memory, very forgetful, stimming, hate change, love patterns and organization, I tend to take things litterally, I do "weird things", and I usually like to be alone.

Yet I have above average physical strength (I have heard that most aspies dont) and I dont lack empathy, sympathy, or compassion (many would say I have to much).

So...What do you think?

You sound Aspie to me, but I don't know you IRL... Aspies don't lack empathy, sympathy, or compassion, but lack a means to express feelings, so it looks to other people like you don't have such feelings.

Sounds like there is a chance you do.

there's some tests on this site that may answer that, but only to an extent. I'm probably above average strength, but I have to haul 100-lb printers around all day...;)

Lacking empathy isn't really an Aspie trait, like someone else already said, but rather the lack of an ability to express empathy. Lacking empathy falls more along the lines of sociopathic personality or schizoid personality disorders.

I can't judge if you have AS or not. I've known people I could have sworn were aspies but in fact they were just shy/reclusive/nerdy NTs.

You sound at least like you have some traits. :D

Btw the above average strength isn't that unusual, so don't think that counts you out. I think Jamie Hyneman may be AS and have you seen his super buff body on TV? 8O As for myself, I can't regulate my blood pressure, but before it was a major problem I was on a travel soccer team that was physically demanding. I was in amazing shape, very strong. 'Course, they got sick of me passing out etc., so that era ended pretty sharply.

I digress...autism spectrum is a distinct possibility, have you considered other PDDs?

It sounds very possible to me.

Sounds like me... :|

Body language and eye contact are the most well known traits for those with AS or Autism.

Yeah, that sounds awfully familiar. I would get tested by a professional. If you are Aspie, then it would be good to know, that way you could deal with it better.

I used to be JUST like that!

I EVEN had above average strength! Even in my thirties, with no steroids, etc, I lost interest in a healthclub because I maxed out nearly every machine. I used one of those hybrid inverted weight legpress machines(Where you can add barbell weights), because it was the safest way to hit my limit. I slipped, and actually had to have two hulking guys help me lift it up. I was a LOT smaller than they were, but even maxed out most of THOSE machines. It's a pity that I have to take it careful on my back and aorta now.

LOL You sound a lot like me when I was young! Only difference seems to be eye contact. I was also super strong. I worked at a feed store in my late 20s & carried out bags of horse feed weighing 80 pounds & was also required to lift 100 plus bales of hay into customers' trucks. My boss was amazed that I could lift the big bags & hay bales because I was pretty average in height & weight. Can't remember how much weight I could lift in a gym, but it was pretty good for a "girl."

I haven't been diagnosed either, but after doing a lot of research it sure looks like Aspergers is what makes me so unusual. It's really the only thing that makes sense!

I know that lacking empathy is not really an Aspie trait. So sorry, the English language is a bit of a weakness for me.
I meant to word that differently but can no longer remember what I was thinking...

Aside from that... yes, it sounds like it.

Thanks for posting your thoughts, I really appreciate them all. As for having a good long term memory yet being super forgetful, I have no idea how I can manage that.
