Does caring to observe them and apply them when I want to count? I tend to just sit out of the way and observe people and study them interacting with each other. -Power Girl

They're cool, they're fun, they're useful.
Social skills develope beyond what nuerotypicals are born with, as evidenced by the many socially inept neuotypicals, and we can certinly learn social skills, therefore we too can become advanced with social skills.
My social skills are probably sub par but I have my social relationships.

No.
I just wish I had them.
And that hard work would show through without "social skills," otherwise known to me as the ability to BS, fake, and appear to be working when nothing of the sort is happening...

Social skills need to be dropped. Hurry up evolution...

This is how I've figured out many things. Unfortunately it's like expecting to put together a Boeing 747 from wreckage. The thing I put together is still wreckage...

Continuing the 747-assembly analogy, I put most of it together right, but I don't have any rivets.

Depends on the particular skills. The ones involved in politics, not so much at the moment.

I like the fact they can read each other. But aspies can be in each others' shoes. I like the fact they can control their voice intonation without scaring people, and don't misunderstand each other, and the fact nobody smothers them with questions. Actually they can handle answering personal questions very well and give answers that are not "senseless, mad or fool". I like their spacial IQ, mine is really low. I can't drive cars, they can. Anyway I appreciate long walks.

Same here, but no fuel either.

Oh, I appreciate them.

Appreciate =/= wanting to be just like them.

If you want another analogy, I am like Windows, looks fantastic, but when something serious needs to be done, crashes and fails

You don't need to be particularly talented in the visual spatial department in order to drive.

I have started to hide my being different when I was 14. So, I did learn my social skills, and I am not jealous at all of the NT for them.

To use the 747 anology. Mine is completely reconstructed, and functional, and on the outside it looks quite alright, and makes people want to fly with me.

Until they see the interior. That is a mixture of chewing gum, elastics, duct tape, and a whole lot of crap holding it all together.

The fact that an NT can take someone else along in their 747 is what I miss most. There have been a few passengers, but sooner or later they all disembarked.

My main problem with social skills is, they are for me a tool. I will lie, cheat, deceive to get to my goal. And the worst bit is, I can't help myself in that. Over the years I have actually build up masks that I can use around people. But that's not me.

Yea, but I'm bored of thinking about it.

I do that a lot too. But I'd have to say that it's more sensible to appreciate the few NTs that give me the time of day and give me credit for trying.

And the Boeing 747 analogy is brilliant.
