I just thought I'd share this. In the midst of my assessment my psychologist asked me,

"What goes on the surface of a road?"

She wouldn't give me any clues. I was a bit puzzled, and then I answered,

"The tarmac and then white lines"

Apparently, NT people will answer this question by saying 'vehicles/traffic'.

Most people with Aspergers will tend to say tyres.

I picked my answer because I figured that roads are made of several layers, and that the tarmac and white lines would make up the surface layer...

What answer do you get?

Horizon.

This answer came to my mind, because when I think of a road, I think of the horizon line. And that looks as if the sky or whatever is seen at the horizon line is on the road.

I wonder if that means that I have a spacy mind.

Because I wouldn't be able to think of people or cars or tyres as possible answers without someone pointing it out to me.

Depends on the road and the purpose of that road, asphalt with motorways/highways, sand or clay on the country side and stones with pavement and some roads surfaces have signs on it (white lines, right of way etc).

WOW! MY first thought was asphalt or cement, and I originally thought about what would MAKE UP the road, but I guess they DID say ON, so lines or tires would have been more appropriate. I guess they couldn't tell you the why they were asking. 8-(

I was once asked what glass was made out of. I STILL don't know why, because it was in passing kind of "off the record" by a psychologist after we left his office. I said "silica" knowing FULL well most would say SAND! MY answer was more precise though.

I thought that the sentence was kinda off grammatically. and well, the only thing going on a road is a person crossing it, isn't it? Stupid 2nd language (this confusion would not be possible as easily in German)!

IF the person properly used declension, and you understood it right, I could see how you could be right. Is such declension THAT common though? And English IS a Germanic language, even if it might the one least appearing so.

Anything goes on the road but what happens on the road stays on the road.

I suppose the psychologist thinks this questions will asses if a person considers the big picture (vehicles etc.) or whether a person has detail-orientated thinking (tyres). Because some say autistic people won't consider the big picture, while non-autistic people will.
