Same here. That is exactly why I prefer associating with other Aspies.

Not to say that there aren't NTs who are like that, but that's why I think people feel comfortable on here.

(It's especially true for me because I live in Texas, where conformity is everything.)

There are two kinds of people:

1.) Those who pretend to be themselves but yet are terrified of not 'fitting in' with their crowd.

2.) Those who can't pretend to be someone they're not and know how much better life is without the headache of fitting in.

Of course, not everyone actually fit in with the hippies, despite any ideals that might have existed.

(Recalling Jerry Newport's stories of attempting to procure drugs from hippies, and wearing out his welcome fast by taking a whole lot of things literally. Not to mention being so socially clueless they thought he was a narc, IIRC.)

Bad analogy... I don't see a lot of hearts full of "peace and love"... (though there are a few, I guess.)

I am watching a show about Hippies, on the History channel. Most of the ones in Haight/Ashbury were homeless. down and out, had too many bad trips, no money, vulnerable. Not fun.

I am kinda 'fraid of (the pseudo-modern neo-) hippies...(even though i have been frequently called one)
Alot of the ones I have been in contact with..well..they seem cliquish and drama ridden and...I just don't hang with their vibe...man....It could be partially because I can't smoke pot...dunnow...

I am not trying to talk smack about hippies...just the ones I have been around have given me alot of anxiety...I actually had a full blown meltdown once in front of a buncha hippies once...

My (Very AS-ish) tried to do the hippy thing when she was young....She said she had a hard time fitting in....even though she is very leftist and non-conformist....She said there was alot of fakeness...

I had the same problem with neo-hippie types when I was a kid. I looked sort of like one (at first utterly by accident), but never fit in with them.

A couple of years ago I got very into the "rave scene" over here in England which is pretty much what all the modern hippies over here are into. At first I thought great here's a load of people I can relate too, they have a chilled out outlook on life, pretty liberal politics, open to new ideas ect ect.

But after a while I realized all the same rules apply, they are conformists, elitist (you always seem to get a head hippy) and basically act the same as everyone else does. Different cloths and music is all.

I'm not saying hippies are bad, but they seem to make claims about being different to society when all they are really doing is making there own little society with the same basic rules.

I think we should all get together and make an aspie commune somewhere............a society with just aspies or people somewhere on the spectrum would be very interesting.
