I have AS and don't ever remember bolting and running off when I was a kid but I notice a lot of younger kids with AS like to bolt and run off. I've always wondered exactly why they do that. Have you ever bolted a lot when you were a kid? If so why did you do that? Im interested in hearing your stories pertaining this!

My "bolting and running" serves mostly as a "stim," I suppose. At the age of almost eighteen, I still have a tendency to "bolt" for a few feet whenever I am deep in thought and/or (mostly and) deeply into the confounds of my "rich inner fantasy life." This is not something that I consciously do; in fact, I often do not notice that I am doing it until it is pointed out to me.

If something was making me very upset, I wanted to run away to get away from it. I actually wanted to run away recently. Me and my dad went on a trip to North Carolina, but he didn't realize he forgot his wallet until we got there and stopped for lunch. We didn't even have enough gas to get home. I just wanted to jump out of the car and run into the woods. Luckily, my sister used Western Union to send some money to my dad so we could continue the trip.

I think I "bolt" now because of my fight/flight reflex.

From my parents' perspective, I've might've "run off" a few times, but it's more just "Hey, hiding from your parents is cool!", "Ooo, look at this", or "My head is in the clouds" kind of wandering off. Must've been stressful for them.
