Xmas is a time to get together with family and to honor the birth of jesus christ. It is also a time to be greatful for what you have and to be willing to give to those who do not have the joy that you have (note, this does not mean gift giving to friends and family but giving to people who have no friends or family).

I hate how commercialized xmas has become. I really hate to hear "I want....". It really pisses me off.

I am atheist so it holds no spiritual meaning for me, but it means a time of generally good feeling all around. It means seeing all the lovely lights and having all the Christmas movies come on. It means the Coca Cola Christmas bears! And being toasty with a big blanket and listening to Christmas music. Coziness. It means coziness.

And the presents are a plus, too. :D

It means enjoying time with your family and reconnecting with them after working hard all year long

My understanding of it is being the celebration of Jesus Christs' birthday, although it is said to have been decided as the birth date to affect a Pagan celebration, and Jesus' birthday is on a different date but tradition has kept it where it is.

I think they just counted 9 months after the Conception. But I don't know the relevance of the date of the Conception. Or maybe that was reversed and they just counted 9 months back from the birth. In any case, I have heard that the date was Pagan related, yes. So is the Christmas tree I'm told.

And Lilith (sp?) was the original name of a Babylonian goddess. :D

Sorry, got off track. Back to Christmas.

To me, Christmas is the time that friends and family come together and celebrate Jesus. It's also the time of year that everybody lets their guards down. It's Peace, love and togetherness. It's also Christmas Lights, Trees and Decorations. It's an evening watching Christmas Shows and Movies. It's also listening to Christmas Songs and CDs, while sipping at a warm cup of Tea. It's also the time of year that I enjoy creating Holiday Art. Ho Ho Ho!

I think it means a lot to me. Then again, I'm not Christian.

So do I. Its just another way the corporations make money. It shouldn't be like that at all.

Fiona, by the way, my Christian connection is a moot point. I suggest you please stop talking about it.

It means spending time with people I care about, having good food, giving and receiving gifts, and just a time to feel good.

Being agnostic, Christmas has no spiritual or religious meaning to me.

Really can't say...spiritually, I'm no longer a true atheist, but I'm not of any religion, either. I guess the best descirption would be Blues Traveler's 'Christmas'. I don't suppose anyone's familar with it, are they?

I think that christmas, like the other holidays, is a way to break up the monotony of day to day life. Throughout history holidays have given people something to look forward to. It seems to me that holidays may have been started as a form of populace control. Personally, I don't really care about christmas. I see, and love, my family everyday, and I am satisfied with my material possesions.
