I feel a bit like this too, so I don't wear headphones for long. I don't exactly become frightened, it's more that I like to be aware all the time and wearing headphones can sometimes feel similar to walking around with my eyes closed.

If I am listening with headphones in a room with the door closed, I will think that someone is pounding on the door and I can't hear them! So I'll keep taking them on and off..."what was that noise?" "Did I just hear something?" Etc...

When I wear headphones outside while walking or running, I am constantly looking around just in case I don't hear a car or someone approaching. It probably looks odd, because I'll turn around a lot and my head is scanning from side to side.

I don't really get scared over loud music, unless it gets loud very suddenly and unexpectedly. I'm mostly scared of unexpected loud obnoxious noises such as fire alarms.

On the other hand, I never seem to be able to get the "right" volume on my headphones, or even on regular speakers. It's always either painful to my ears, or difficult to hear.

I don't use headphones because they hurt my ears. But I do listen to music loudly. It's not a problem for me. I prefer it loud.

If you go to a good teck store and ask they should be able to point you towards head phones that are designed to let the outside noises in I got a pare and it stoped me walking in front of cars and my paranoia

I don't wear headphones, even at the radio station, for just these reasons. I'm paranoid enough thanks.

I used to walk around with headphones on all the time ironically to drown out all the other sounds around me. It's like I'm in my own world where no one can mess with me. I had the good kind, too, you know, the ones that look like the old-fashioned kind that keep others around you from hearing your music. However, the right side has a short so they're no good.

The only noises that bother me are ones I have no control over like the noise pollution caused by cars, motorcycles and police/ambulance sirens. Without my headphones, it's harder to motivate myself to go outside my door because the world just assaults my senses head-on without them.
