I finally agreed to go to the local mental health clinic with a friend on Tuesday. He has been pushing me to get help for my issues for months now and I am finally relenting. I realize that I need help dealing with my issues in order to move on in life so I guess now's as good a time as any. My primary issues are depression, anxiety and derealization, but I want to bring up my suspicions of Asperger's as well. I just wonder how I should go about it as I am new to this.

Now this visit will just be to set the initial appointment and see if I qualify for for any assistance as I don't make anywhere near enough to pay for it on my own and I am uninsured. If I can't get help for a reasonable price then I guess I can't get help.

Don't act like this guy and everything will be fine.

Or in other words, don't be a jerk and don't try to PROVE to them you are autistic by acting like a literal ret*d.

I'm reading that topic and don't see how they did anything wrong or are "acting like a ret*d".

well, that person was bent on proving to therapist that they have ASD despite what therapist said
they literally did something like "LOL LOOK HOW ret*d I AM I MUST HAVE ASSBURGERS :D :D D:! !! !!1111"
not nice

I read the topic and I didn't see it that way at all. Bringing in a list of symptoms and explaining how you have those symptoms is not doing what you claim they did.

It's people that think things like that that make it even harder for me to even try to talk to a therapist as apparently I'm not even allowed to bring in a list of my symptoms and suspicion of what I have. Apparently they are just supposed to guess.

In here, parents are required to testify so that the psychiatrists get a depiction of your early childhood which you may not remember well yourself. Apparently my parents looked at me through rose-tinted glasses, so I ultimately had to smear some MRI scans on their faces before the psychiatrists believed that my "asperger-like features" were an actual AS.

I do agree that they should talk to my parents and so I have already prepared them for that possibility. Talking to my mom about how I was is part of how I did my self-diagnosis.

in adult diagnosis i dont think parents should be key....parents are not an accurate account of how you are because they lose their memory and also want to look at you as best they can.
