Does anyone else have this side affect from the SMELL of coffee?

I HATE the smell of coffee wether it be instant, machine made or saucepan made.

More than hating the smell, I get side affects from the SMELL.

Headache --- worsening to earache and blocked head --- worsening to slight loss of co-ordination, concentration and slight panic --- worsening to further panic and disorintation. at trhe top end of the scale I might have a panic attack.

If I am already stressed and overloaded it can overload me so much quicker when other times I can deal with it for quite a while by ajusting my breathing.

It causes people offense when I move away from them or don't want to go near them. I am sure NTs think I make it up. I have reaserched on the net and found that LOTS of people have these or similar symtoms from DRINKING coffee but am yet to come by any thing that says the same symtoms are felt by the SMELLING of coffee.

Does anyone know anyting along the lines of SMELLING coffee? or Caffine.

The aroma of coffee makes me feel sick to my Stomach. I also get Headaches from it as well. That's why I drink Tea, instead.

No. I don't mind the smell too much. But I don't like drinking it at all. Actually, I hate all warm drinks, including hot chocolate.

Strangely enough, I don't mind sipping soup broth though.

The smell of coffe makes me puke when in a confined place, such as a car, or when there is no fresh air.

I CAN drink coffee but I don't like it. My mum is a coffee addict. I suppose I have been poisoned in utero with coffee. :D

Bearsac-Debra,is there the same problem with others like coca cola, pepsi, redbull, tea etc?

Could it be a caffeine intolerance/allergy or perhaps it is a sensory issue?

Coffee is one of my favourite scents....and drink.

I have not tried colas in over about 20 - 25 years as I didn't like the taste as a child and don't want to try now incase I like it as |I don't like drink sweet stuff too much. and I dont like the idea of caffine anyway. I don't seem to like anything with caffinne other than red bull I quite like red bull but its too expensive to drink all the time.

My adversion to caffine products could be my brain psychically telling my taste buds not to like the taste as maybe I do have an intolerance that is very bad, but I have no desire to find out the hard way!

The coffee thing may be a sensory thing, it certinly gives me overload anyway.

I don't like the smell much, but cold coffee drinks I like. I ice my coffee and add lots of creamer if I make it myself.

I love the smell of coffee. The only bad thing about it is I want to keep smelling it.

This is almost certainly a sensory issue. I also have trouble with the smell of coffee, plus tea (even worse). In my case, AS affects my sense of smell way more than my other senses, and I think this is the main source of my psychological problems associated with my AS.

No problem with colas, though I don't like them as much as other soft drinks. No problem with caffeine, I used to take 1600 mg by pill each day, but quit (cold-turkey, with no ill effects) when I decided it wasn't good for me.

I spent one year living in Hoboken, NJ, near the Maxwell House coffee plant there. When the wind was right it was a nightmare! :D

I cannot go into coffee stores. I have to stand outside and wait for whomever I am shopping with. Nearly 20 years ago when I was a teenager I was out with my aunt and went into a specialty coffee shop with her and passed out because the smell got to be too much.

I have also passed out 3 times at salons because of the smell of perms.

And anyone who has driven between Rochester and Minneapolis knows what I am talking about when you pass that big plant north of Cannon Falls. I don't know what they make but it smells stronger than tar and I have to cover my nose when we go by.

I really dislike smells.

Coffee doesn't do that to me, but I get really overloaded from the smell of doughnut shops.
