Hey, Cartman did it.

In all seriousness though, yes it is possible. If anything it seems to be a pretty normal coping method for most people (stress begs a behavioral response, ticks or compulsions are behavioral responses...)

Of course. I mean, few people are born depressed... you will grow into depression. But even then, it's to do with the chemistry and neurology of your brain. Same with OCD. Though you might not have OCD but 'just' obsessive or compulsive symptoms, depending on the severity of these and the frequency and all...

You want to blurt out words? Do you? Can you stop doing it (if you do it)?
That would not be Tourette's. Because Tourette's would mean you had tics. And tics isn't anything like 'wanting' to do something or being able to not do it by choice.

That you want to blurt out things to people sounds like a stress symptom or like an obsessive/compulsive issue.

I see it more as you're REALLY sick of being ignored, and just want people to acknowledge you're alive.

Because you're to the point you don't expect them to react positively to you no matter what, you're pissed off, and you just want them to know you're alive?

Why do people look for psychological reasons for tics and compulsive urges when it seems more likely it is something happening in the brain

Yes, but while there are psychological elements to the disorder, it's a wiring issue that isn't inconsistent w/autism. Not surprising if tendency gets worse when you are tired. As far as disorders go, I like Tourette's. It's a creative person's disorder.

Because there's no telling what might be happening in richardbenson's brain.

I know Tourette's gets worse when you're anxious. Do you have occasional tics, usually?

Anyway--see if you can stop it. If you can't, they're tics. If you don't have time to think before you do it, try chewing gum to remind you to try...

Tourette's usually develops before age 10. It is very uncommon for a Tourette's diagnosis to show up after childhood. Also, to be diagnosed as Tourette's, one must have both motor and vocal tics. I'm sure it's possible to develop a specific tic after childhood, but it's unlikely that it's full-blown Tourette's. OCD on the other hand can arise much later in life, up until middle age. It is very uncommon for OCD to develop after this point. The peak time for OCD to develop after childhood is ages 18-25.
