Hello everyone
I have come to the conclusion
that there are just as many different kinds of people with autism
as there are different flavours of ice cream...
I have realized that alot of my difficulty "dealing" with my autism
is not because it actually is an overly problematic disorder
or that it truly hinders me...but because of the lack of information
and general "black and white" perspective there seems to be concerning the autistic spectrum
I am finding that I have as much in common with other people with AS
as I do with neaurotypical individuals
I believe that the use of blanket terminology is confusing, misleadng and counterproductive for most people
that are on the spectrum......I believe that a closer look into the lives of individuals dealing with this"disorder"
and the way they manage to function and thrive is they key to understanding Ourselves and one another.....
I think that in the future we will think of most kinds of autism as an archtype(Example:Some people are heavy some are skinny its part of our genetic makeup and part of who we are)Honestly I find most of the traits and behaviours associated with my diagnosis as
Enabling,They empower me...I feel lucky to be able to think and feel this way even if at times it can be confusing and overwhelming.......And of course ALL the information isnt going to apply to me why would it?I am an individual I have lived my life in my own fashion seen and been shown and percieved many different scenarios [people places and things that would affect me and my outlook and how I have coped or compensated in a way that has so many variables it would be blasphemous to claim any one of us is textbook cold cut and dry to the letter "how we are supposed to be"
i dunno
Im sick of people telling me Im "mildly" autistic
I find when people state I dont have "bad" autism offensive.....
Its terminology like that that made me think I was broken
its attitudes and posturing like that that made me ashamed to be who i am
Im not looking for excuses
I dont need a definition
but yes I was looking for answers
and after years of self loathing and destruction
I finally found the information I needed
and have begun to understand how it applies to me and my life....
the context in which I view this information has changed VASTLY!
All im saying really is...Be proud of who you are...Love yourself live life and enjoy every last drop cause you get one chance...You define who you are...you decide what is self...Live your life and learn everything you can on the way
theres no second trips to the buffet.....We all try to eat our fill and once we head out the doors they turn out the lights....

With all due respect, I pass along my "Captain Obvious" award to you!
Eventually, everybody with an open mind comes to the same conclusions, I think.

Not so great at partyslol
maybe I need a gimmick
puppet?people love puppets....lol
I am glad to hear you say people with an open mind would come to these same conclusions post haste.
I think that was my point really is that with the right info and the right insight the lives of people in these situations
would be richer and contain a lot less disappointment and frustration.Enlightened attitudes and education could drastically change the way we understand and "deal" with autism on every level of the spectrum.Trying to adopt this stance myself
and help the people in my life understand a little better as well, has made things much more amicable for me and those close to me.Like I said glad to hear This isnt nonsense but More along the lines of good sense:)

Sure, the same thing can be said about NTs... or any other group.
But AS, for example, is a "syndrome," and a syndrome is defined as "A collection of signs and symptoms that together form a condition with a known outcome, and which requires special treatment."
So the kinds of people may be different as you say, but AS is generally the same for all those people. That's what makes it a syndrome. This also applies to all the various syndromes along the spectrum. The people are diverse, but each of the "signs and symptoms" of various autistic syndromes follow their own unique pattern.

I agree with you wholeheartedly but i think as well that depending on the individual sometimes dealing with it can be much easier
depending on how they have coped or compensated.really if the mental health field was more personalized it would be more efficient.sadly we do not seem to have the resources to maintain such a system as of yet.....I just feel lucky to even have access to adequate medical attention let alone someone a shrinklol
