As a teacher I have been under severe stress lately, to accomodate myself and having to live wiht 4 other teachers under the same roof, people I haven't actually chosen to live with. When I am under stress, my body reacts with tich, my muscles or nerves in my face start playing up, and now for 2 weeks my left eyelid is constantly twiching. It annoys me thorughout my sleep and waking up it is the first thing that happnes. It used to be my nostril or cheek or arm a year ago. how can I stop this???

I used to have the same problem.

Is the tic voluntary, or not? By this I mean, can you stop them for, say, a second by force of will, or do they simply fire on their own?

calcium and magnesium supplements def help and b6, b12 will help too. have the same problem dear gosh idk how many black eyes i gave myself for this. those all help tourettes or tic related disorders. if all possible though try to find a way to relieve this stress, see if u can meditate, take a walk, do soemthing thatll calm you the most, something thats your own way of coping with things. Even if it means rocking back and forth in a dark room with a weighted blanket on, humming. Anyways hope this helps and good luck, i use an eye mask to put pressure against it to ignore it.

I usually find relief with a week or two of taking a magnesium supplement every day. Unfortunately it doesn't work as fast as something like tylenol for pain, but since it takes a while for your body to become depleted of magnesium it also takes a while for your body to reabsorb it.

Also I found out a few months ago that this is not actually a "tic". It's this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benign_fas ... n_syndrome

Don't feel bad though, I didn't know either, and if you do tell someone you have benign fascisculation syndrome they'll probably think you're dying or something.
