I've only been here a few days and it already seems to me that a huge number of the people who post probably don't have Aspergers and certainly aren't autustic in the traditional sense of the word so is this just a social free-for-all or catch-all for everybody who thinks they are a little weird and strange.

Sounds like you've already made your decision.

I have NLD (nonverbal learning disability), which is either on the spectrum or not, depending on who you talk to. So I'm not autistic, but not far off.

remember, not everyone with asperger's will be the same, the diagnostic criteria are rather wide...as for me, i'm officially diagnosed with AS, many of us are, whereas there are some who are self diagnosed.

and also, lots of us are far better at typing or sociailising on the internet than we are at holding real life conversations...could you neccesarily tell someone has AS just by what they type? i think it'd be very difficult.

it's not a social free for all but non AS people can post as long as they're respectful of the rules and don't cause trouble.x

I'm one of those who are autistic (classic).

Psych says I "probably have aspergers". I eventually gave up on therapy since it didn't help, and don't have an official diagnosis. I might get one someday.

I could be misdiagnosed and it was better to tell my mother "Your daughter is on the autism spectrum and Aspergers is the closest match I can come to for a diagnoses" than telling her "Your daughter is not on the spectrum and she is just a selfish brat who doesn't care about other people or really think about their feelings and she wants everything her way or else she won't be calm, and she is just a smart ass and is stupid."

I was diagnosed, but apparently I am milder case than most, so I feel I have the best of both worlds.

I'm officially diagnosed with AS. But I don't consider myself to be autistic, because I'm someone who believe Asperger's is a form of NLD, not a form of autism. Anyway, I've been diagnosed for almost three years, been exhibiting Aspie-ness since birth.

I have NLD (officially diagnosed) and OCD (not diagnosed, but will be soon). But surprisingly, I can pass as very normal. I'm normally pretty social.

I'm not diagnosed *yet*, I'm getting evaluated soon, however.

Also, I have a younger sibling that is diagnosed with autism.

Asperger/autistic people don't present the same way online as they do in person.

If you don't feel, understand or relate to the comments on this board as being AS and/or autistic in nature, then you are not one yourself.

You must be lacking the "A-DAR"

What's A-DAR?
