I was looking at a site (can't remember what it was) one day and it had actualy videos of HFA and Aspie kids talking. They sounded like monotone robots which is far from any aspie I have ever seen or heard, including myself. I think it's a crock unless those are more severe cases that are being displayed.

People say I talk a little bit monotonous sometimes but it's nothing like robotic.

I have inappropiate voice tone. I just imitate what I hear or randomly change it unconciously.

I find my voice is a little more on the monotonal side when I'm not excited or upset. Same with my oldest son who is HFA.

There was a link on aspergia where there was a sound clip of a boy who had AS who didn't have a flat tone to his voice. In fact his voice sounded a lot like mine as a kid when I tended to put a little too much emphasis on syllables.

My voice is just about COMPLETELY monotone. I have the worst trouble imaginable expressing emotions. I also forget to make facial expressions. :(

My voice sounds like that, too, only mine sort of fades in and out in most sound recordings I made of myself. They're all not online in a public place, but if you listen to the sound clip of the boy, my voice sounds like that a little (well, it did when I was nine).

Changes very much; depends which "I" is doing the talking and from how "far" inside I have to come. It can be a kid voice, a monotone, unintentional accents, a tone that gets (mis)interpreted as angry, a voice that's so soft most people don't hear it - most of it not within conscious control. Losing my voice (not due to anything wrong with my vocal chords and such) has also happened; maybe that's a kind of selective mutism, although I was forming the words with my lips.

I know (of) Asperger autistics who speak in a monotone and Kanner autistics who speak "normally", so it's another red herring for the Kanner/Asperger debate... :P

my voice sometimes goes monotone when I'm stressed or talking about something very serious or upsetting, but other than that it's pretty normal. Once I was working with a Spanish woman who told me that I sounded like a robot and that my voice made her sleepy, but I think that was mostly a cultural difference, she spoke in a hyper-emotive way that I found quite hard to listen to too.

My "natural" voice is almost purely monotone. I can imitate accents or add expression deliberately if I choose to, though.

My speech is also pretty much monotone. I have been told before that I sound like I am "reading from a script." My cousin makes fun of me because, apparently, when I get angry I just speak a little bit faster and a little bit louder (which is actually normal volume for most people).

If I force it, I can fake it a bit, but it sounds odd to me. I too can copy other people's vocal patterns fairly well.

Some people think I'm "emotionless." They pretend to imitate me by saying "ha ha" in a monotone voice.

i'm definitely monotone. i try to add a little emotion sometimes, especially when someone else seems excited about something or i'm reading aloud, but it always feels fake. probably not very convincing either.

i don't raelly know what it is...

I don't think so, though. My parents always told me I had a good radio voice, but it can be bland if I want someone to leave me alone.

I don't think I have a very monotone voice at all, though at times I do mumble or talk to fast for people to understand me. However, I have a very low voice and I guess you could say that I don't display as much emotion in the way I talk as some people do.

I have a monotone, flat voice. I suspect though that my aspie sensory overload and sensitivity make me want to minimize the emotions I'm feeling inside, so I try not to project too much. Especially being a guy, it isn't often rewarding to show a lot of emotional expression.

I really detest hearing newscasters with their exaggerated sing-song rhythm that is supposed to make it easier to follow the news. I find myself echoing the sing-sing sentences.

my voice has the usual cadences, but maybe that's because i'm a musician (voice training) and was an actor (ditto).

however, i do speak unbelievably rapidly!
