what is the difference between those with AS and AD(H)D vs those with just AS?

I was just dx'ed. my dx is in my signature.

-as of now official dx is ADHD (inattentive type) but said ADD (314.00) on the dx paper, PDD-NOS and was told looks like I have NLD

I think it largely a matter of paperwork to be honest as those of us with almost any combinations of so-called 'conditions' are so unique as to be almost unbelieveble in complexity. For this reason I think that most shrinks are doing a pretty good job if they can get within a mile of putting us somewhwere on the spectrum. The fine points actually don't make much difference to us, I guess it does to them but that's another story.

Congratulations, vivinator!

I would guess that AS without ADHD (inattentive type) would mean someone who does not have problems sustaining attention or does not have problems with executive functioning. It seems like executive dysfunction is practically universal in AS though, so more likely someone with AS but not ADHD would be missing the attention problems mainly.

I think I may have ADD as well.
I can't concentrate when listening to a person speak, even if it's just the two of us talking. My mind wanders off when I watch TV or a movie. And I have several thoughts at once.
Is that like ADD?

They often overlap with each other. People on the autism spectrum can sometimes score high for inattention but I am not sure that this means they truly have ADHD.

I have so many different diagnoseses, that I don't know anymore.
I am undiagnosed AS,but trying to get an assessment, and I just started taking Strattera for adhd. All I know is how I am, no sure if it is how anyone else is. My memory is about 2 seconds to the point that i can't get anything done, I get distracted by everything, especially sensory issues. So it is a constant feeling of needing to keep moving keeping busy, being distracted by everything, getting nothing done, and being extreemly over stimulated by environmental things, and absoulutely NO one understanding you and walking thorugh life completely oblivious to anything going on around you that is concidered "normal".

I got diagnosed with AS at 11, then also diagnosed with ADHD a few years ago (although I wasn't looking for a diagnosis, the doctor just gave me one, bah). Personally, I'm not entirely sure if the second diagnosis is correct or not, because I was especially surprised he diagnosed me with it so quickly and out of the blue seemingly just based on what he saw over a 15 minute time span while I was talking about how school was going. I think a massive amount of misdiagnosis for ADHD goes on, and as a disorder itself it's a little vague. I seem to have some of the problems, like inability to maintain attention and focus on one thing without my mind drifting off or getting distracted, and ritalin certainly helped me enormously in my final two years of school (when from getting D's to A's in some cases, although I'm not on it anymore because I'm sick of the side effects), but I don't seem to display all the characteristics, like temper tantrums and all that.

People with AS often have symptoms or difficulties that people with ADHD have but I think it is more apart of the syndrome - AS - than ADHD.
Sometimes it is never that clear cut and a specialist does not know. They treat the symptoms with out even being sure of the diagnose. Maybe the primary dx but not as such co-existing.

I imagine that if I did not have all the ADD symptoms, either I would not have such a drive to attempt (unsuccessfully) to multitask...and I would tend to hyperfixate even more.

Hard to tell..

If I did not have my ADD symptoms, I imagine I would dissolve into nothingness.
