My sister recently brought up I either A) click my Watch clasp or B) am moving around my rings on my finger. She commented tell the Psychiatrist so he could put me on some pill IMO I don't want another pill and I don't see the stims as an issue although she finds them annoying she says I can't stop. :-) Does anyone else feel like this? Also what should I do with this issue? (I don't see them as that much as an issue but it does pop to mind when she brings them up.)

People didn't like my pacing so they were always telling me to sit because it was making them nervous.

I can remember being told to stop rocking in my chair or stop tapping my pencil because they were making noise. Any stimming I did that made sounds, I got told to stop.

I remember when I was six, teachers and kids would get mad at me for playing with a paper clip. Every time I was caught with one, I would get yelled at and the kids would take it from me and show it to the grown up such as to a teacher or to a staff and I would get told "You don't do that" and be given a lecture. I couldn't understand why it was bad to bend it apart and play with it. As an adult, I guess it was because they wanted to save them, not have them get wrecked by a student and have to buy more.

Now no one has problems with my stimming because no one is around to stop me and my family doesn't say anything or my boyfriend.

Someone at work made a comment about my pacing one time when she was showing me how to do my new job when I moved to day shift. She said "My grand son does that" and I didn't know what she was talking about until she said he is doing what I am doing and she said he has ADHD and I said I was just bored so I'm pacing. We we were waiting for the elevator.
I wonder if she was thinking I have the same condition as her grand son.

I do flap my hands on occasion. People tend to mimic that one and laugh.

Pacing. This really gets to people. One of my teachers insists that I stay sitting, I make her nervous. Another, however, doesn't mind (or she says nothing).

Those are the only stims that are easily noticed.

Rocking in my chair, tapping my feet and tapping my fingers helps me to relax when studying. Tapping my fingers and rocking on my chair weren't tolerated in school which was annoying.

am dont find am getting stopped here from doing it,but at the last home am lived in,one of the staff especially, would come up every time she saw doing it,and try and physically stop from rocking [and say its making her sea sick],which only made am speed up,head bang off the floor and become even less responsive with them.am dont understand why she homed in every time,as it is an almost constant stim am do,and it isnt to make her bad or anyone else,am think the staff in this home are more experienced than the last place because am never get pulled out of rocking, unless have ended up doing it outside somewhere,or am not responding.
some other, not well liked stims am do are head banging and cutting,am do not have a pain threshold on outer body [no pain] so often do sensory seeking stims that use pressure.
its endless complaining about those,as most staff do not understand them-usually they think it's for attention or pain or a problem [as am do hb and cut for other reasons],only the national autistic society staff and mum and dad understand them as calming/stims,even though they don't like the idea- they at least respect them.

zeldapsychology,
if do not feel impaired in any way by doing those stims, then are not harming self and especially-do not need to go on a medication-that is all up to self.
sister does not need to see it as a problem or impairment in any way,as there are many other types of stimming that she probably does herself, that wouldn't be fair telling someone to give a stim up or medicate it whilst having some of own.

just in order to cope with day to day life. I stim almost continuously and have funny facial expressions and do this funny thing with my fingers. i twirl my feet around each other to get to sleep and when stretched out on the couch; and i have the lax joints thing (but not unco-ordinated so much)-so i feel compelled to stretch my joints and limbs a lot. i will be in a supermarket cue and i will have to strech and touch my toes or twist my spine or back. it looks like a kiddie thing, and something i should have outgrown by nearly 50...but i haven't (hence the developmental disorder tag.) I rock on my chair and swing on my chair. that type of thing. thrumming, pacing, rocking, chewing pens - rythmic kind of things to settle oneself. very very soooothing......

I stim a lot, especially when upset.

My older NT sister and my mom both think I'm stupid whenever I stim.
I do not have the right mind to explain to them what stimming is.

I've been made fun of for it sometimes. I got a  for a new year's resolution: Never restrain from stimming and always refuse to take any s**t for it. I'm serious. I've recently wanted everyone to know about my condition so it would give me more opportunities to talk about it and it'll also be healthier because we stim for a reason 8)

My AS son stims more when he is upset. His usual stims are 1) pacing and 2) twirling a drumstick or pencil through his fingers. Sometimes it's annoying for me, but I try hard to remember that it is important for him to have this outlet. Some of us have outlets that are easily heard/seen and some have outlets that are not, AS or NT. I'm an NT with ADHD and I'm a knee bouncer. I've bounced my knee since I remember. It does get annoying for others sometimes and so I try to keep it controlled when I'm at workshops or other places when I have to share a table or be close to others.
