Ok new to WP, mainly joined as have two AS friends and wanted to learn more - to improve my communication and plus the site is great.

Anyway, out of curiousity did the rdos test as few posts mentioned it. Here is my result.

Your Aspie score: 105 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 125 of 200
You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

Image

Anyway, what does this mean, I am confused, I think it is cool - but I seem to have not got any of the cool AS talents - my computer skills are appauling (not stereotyping :)
Having two degrees and two masters might have more to do with inflicting self suffereing! :) - I am joking!

The question is how is this possible - is it becuase I had exposure to two very different cultures during my childhood. The first being a very warm loving culture which probably taught me a lot of my social skills. Okay this is not making any sense. So I give up.

Anyway anyone else who may have had a similar experience, I mean score wise? Or would like to comment on this?

Also, what are "Hunting skills"? I seem to be rather poor at those! :) Glad wasn't born during Cave men/women era! :) (joking)

It means you can't skin an animal using nought but your teeth and fury.

Welcome to the boards, Jwa. I'll leave the serious stuff to the other people, I'm not very good at that. But it's still perfectly possible to have AS and NT 'traits' without being an aspie, or neurotypical, which is probably why it's so hard to diagnose- the symptoms are so fuzzy and relative that it's hard to be sure.

I am certain that almost everybody has a strong mixture of 'NT' and 'Aspie' traits. Some profiles are more lopsided than others, but we are all individuals with different strengths and weaknesses. This makes for a lot of NTs with Aspie traits alongside those who would fall more neatly into a diagnostic catagory.

I doubt there is a person in existance that doesn't have at least one AS and NT trait to them. Like how I'm not a super nerd at math, while some NT's might be ( a steryotype, I know but you get my point right?)

Absolutely. I have diagnosed with "high functioning aspergers". I have met many aspies and have found that I am able to act and understand NT's better than them typically. It's funny but because I'm an aspie who can somewhat be NT, I consider myself to be the "aspie embassador" to the NT's.

Yes there are people like this, especially on science courses.

They can switch from chat mode to analyse mode in seconds.

I seem to be permanently stuck on analyse mode and can't initiate informal conversations easily.

It's like someone else has to turn the ignition key for me so I can contribute to the conversation.

It looks like yours is a bit more neuro, OP. (anyone notice neuro and nero are homonyms?)
I think most people are pretty much the same anyway, with pretenses here and there. They all have pretty much the same patterns of behaviour and want pretty much the same things no matter the pretense. They aren't fundamentally different, just superficially so.

I too have a mix.

Aspie: 104 of 200
NT: 103 of 200
Both Aspie and NT traits.

As far as hunting, here's a thread that talks about that: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt80344.html

I have both too. I have traits of Asperger syndrome with it fulfilling the criteria, so I do not actually have Asperger syndrome. However, due to the traits I do have and that I find it very difficult to make and keep friends etc., I do wonder if I could be classed as having PDD-NOS, although that is rather a catch-all term.

I like that description.

As for the nerd/geek think. Interesting to know my husband isn't the only one who makes the distinction. I don't understand the distinction. But he's a nerd, I'm a geek, according to him. He's a computer programmer, I'm into music and work at a library. :)

The difference between geek and nerd can be fuzzy but there IS a difference. I think...
