alanis morissette = aspie?

I have been watching some of her videos lately and there is something about her that makes me think 'aspie'? Maybe her dress or lyrics or how she is always playing with her hands but there is something that strikes a chord with me.Has anyone else noticed this?

i like her. she has great songs...

I haven't had the opportunity to notice it. What about her dress that makes you think that?

A friend of mine has known her since highschool and I don't think she is. She's quirky, but I don't think Aspie.

has anyone seen her on the CUrb Your Enthusiasm episode?
It is the only time i have been vaguely entertained by her.

she seems like a nice person...but i cannot cop that style of performing.

I have no idea whether she would be or not but its possible. My instincts say no.

Ha! I can't stand her music either.

She's a stereotypical whiny, hippy-esque female singers to me. Nothing AS about her though in my opinion.
Although her lyrics scream boarderline personality disorder.

I love her, & I can see what you mean. She does seem to have some "quirks" about her, but I don't think it necessarily means she has Asperger's.

she plays the 'angst' role, ts part of her act, thats what you're focusing on.

despite that and the sledging she gets I do think her tunes are ok.

I don't know much about her but you're NOT going to find a lot of people on the spectrum that are famous rock/pop stars.

You're going to find more traits of AS with a lot of classical composers (such as Ravel or Mozart) instead.

There are a few. I think David Byrne has an interview about his AS on uTube.

there is also a young guy here in australia - lead singer of The VInes - who is As and has had all sorts of anger problems and acting out over the past couple of years.

I was also the partner many may years ago of a very very highly respected jazz tenor sax player here in my coutnry. very avant-garde stuff. he and i were junkies. i got clean and he did not. THere is no doubt he has AS although he is undiagnosed.

I exist in the arts realm - i am isolated and a bit of a hermit. However, i am well aware that there is a greater proportion of ASD People in the arts realms than there is in the general population. a lot of very strange misfits.

I hate to bring up the debate about diagnosing people posthumously yet again -- but if glenn gould and Eric Satie were not AS then i do not know who is. IT is so very apparent.


as for Alanis Morisette - isn't she just a Canadian and fabricated early 90's version of the real deal who happens to be Patti Smith ?
....and wasn't alanis also a child star in her home country? my brain is filled wiht mindless tidbits of info as is typical of many of us, and every time she is rolled out to sing that awful hit - i get a childstar association from the brain files......

not my cup of tea, ...yuck....although she looked pretty ok in just one of her clips.

I love Alanis, she's certainly quirky but I've never suspected Aspergers with her.

And yes she was a child star on the show You Can't Do That on Television back in the 80s.

It's her awkwardness that makes her appear Aspieish. I saw her on You Can't Do That On Television.
As a child, she was different than she is now. She was just like all the other kids on the show, nothing awkward about her.
I would say she started out not being an Aspie then started including awkwardness in her public persona.

It is rehearshed behavior that most models learn. One develops a stage pressence to suit a particular image one wants to project with body language and various other nuancies (sp).
