Here's something that's been confusing me for a while now. Whenever I close my eyes and stand up for even just a minute, I start getting really dizzy and I begin to have trouble hearing. I've gotten dizzy like this before (and eventually passed out a few times), but why am I getting it for just standing up and closing my eyes at the same time?

Here are two notible examples. In eighth grade, my class did this activity where we all went to the back woods of the school We each had a partner and one of us had to be blindfolded and the other person had to lead us through the woods. I was the blindfolded person and I passed out within about five minutes or so. And just a few minutes ago, my mom was trimming my bangs and I had to stand up and keep my eyes shut (obviously I don't want hair in my eyes). After a minute or so, I started getting dizzy and I could only hear about half as well.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Tell your Dr. Getting dizzy when you stand up could be low blood pressure, but I dunno. Just a guess. Your Dr. should be able to help you, and if you've passed out from it, s/he really needs to know about it.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Another weird thing is that if I'm in a pool or something, if I stay in long enough, when I get out, I can barely even walk. One time, I was pretty much paralyzed for half an hour from the waist down at Kings Island from the pools.

That can be a sign of a lot of things including high blood pressure or even a heart condition.

I know that low blood pressure and hypoglycemia run in the family, but I don't know of anyone with high blood pressure. I have had some heart burn lately though.

If anyone's interested, here are the times I've actually passed out.

Age 13- Overheated at grocery store
Age 14- Blindfolded in the woods
Age 17- Riding my bike a block down the street
Age 18- Walking in the snow

None of those things really have anything to do with each other, so I don't know.

I don't know exactly when the next time I'll be going back will be, but I think it should be pretty soon. I'll talk to her about it and see what she says. Because I don't think any of this is really normal. Definitely not.

It's called a head rush, usually caused by low blood pressure. Just try to remember to get up slowly. It seems yours is also worsened by stress.

And if she says, "duh, I don't know, it's probably nothing," *please*, go and find another doctor till you get the right answer.

I have very low blood pressure. I've never had the experiences you describe, but I used to have a really weird thing happen when I was a kid. I'd get out of bed in the morning and stand up, with my eyes fully open, and not be able to see anything for about 10 seconds. Just total blackness, like I was totally blind. It used to freak me out. I think it has something to do with having low blood pressure and having the pressure change too quickly by going from lying down to standing, but I'm not sure.

I've had that happen before but I want to think everything was white for some reason, not black?

Yeah, I always get that. For me, half the time it's black, and half the time it's white. It happens so often, it doesn't even phase me anymore. What I really hate, though, is that sometimes when I get up, I'll literally just fall right over. But that hasn't happened in a couple of weeks now.

I got a lot of head rushes when I was younger. The last one I had was in a shopping centre a few years back. I've only ever passed out from too much Jagermeister...5 times...in one night.

I've talked more about this to my mom and she says that I'm too thin. I really do think it's the low blood pressure though. And possibly over-exerting myself sometimes, too.

Living on sugar coated sugar? You need some ballest, slow burning all day food.

Getting dizzy/no vision/buzzing in ears after you stand up is orthostatic hypotension. It's normal- everyone in my family gets it and none of us have medical problems. I'm not sure what the passing out during activity is though.

Inventor- I actually don't like sweets. I mainly just eat TV dinners and fast food (Unhealthy, I know, but I'm trying to gain weight and it's not working.).

LostInSpace- The passing out part is the part that confuses me, too. I never had any problems before I was thirteen with any of this, and then one day, I passed out and I've been getting dizzy and stuff ever since.
