I got watching the movie "A Christmas Story" and got to the part where a kid sticks his tongue to a post after a dare. This reminded me of my youth when I actually did the same. It wasn't due to a dare however, it was a very cold winter day and I just decided to try it. This was at the schoolyard in front of all other kids and the teacher had to come with some water to free my tongue.
Looking back this would be kind of embarrassing. Did anyone else try this or anything similar?

Pipe that was the fill point for the heater oil (there wan't any oily bits where I stuck my tongue). I was maybe 5? Not sure. Why did I do it? Impulsive and curious youth, I don't recall there being a particular 'thought' process that lead to it.

It was quite cold out, and there was a lot of mass to the pipe. My mother had to bring out a bowl of very warm tapwater to help me get it off and it still left a fair bit of taste buds on the pipe. Tongues heal fast though, the mouth is IIRC the fastest healing part of your body.
Yes, it's a bit embarrassing but not hugely. It's also part of what makes "A Christmas Story" so darn funny. Funny because it's true!
P.S. There is a picture of me somewhere at my mom's where I dressed up very ... oddly in the face of the cold to go to my grandmothers a block away. That picture is far more embarrassing. Not sure why but my mother had gone there for something, telling me to stay put, and I decided she was taking to long to get back. I was older but not that much.
